If you don't know how to ride in a pack, do that first by riding with some clubs.

If you're confident with that, find some local practice races and sign up. You can probably get a one day or season license at the event. You can ask around at your local race-oriented LBS.

Most local events around here are not listed on usacycling.org. I don't know how it is where you are.

Feel free to ask more specific questions here too.

Botto has posted a ~8 step method a few times, you could search his username and 'group ride' or 'attack' or something like that.

You could also watch EventServices' video, he posted it about a week ago. It'll show you what being in a Crit looks like... so at least you won't be surprised.

Other than that, you just show up at a race (or pre-register), fill out a form, pay, and bam, you're racing. I don't know about where you are, but around here, there really isn't a ton of racing left in the year, so you might want to buy single-day licenses.

Edit: Found the threads for you.
