The audacity....

The audacity of Major League Baseball/San Francisco Giants to kick Barry Bonds out of the sport based only on the suspicion of drug use. And to do so in the same week that he is about to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Oh wait, they would never have the guts to do that.

I'm sure my letter to the author (basically 'naive sportswriters are coming down on cycling and give others a free pass') won't get published.

Incorrect.

They would never be dumb enough to do that.

Correct.

Cool. So you'd prefer to be put in prison, have your house taken away based on a book some other guy wrote about you? Guilty until proven innocent has worked very fairly throughout history.

Barry is about the only thing us Giants fans have going right now. That and the young pitcher Tim Lincecum. Our best clutch hitter is catcher Benji Molina and he's slower than an AT-AT.

There is a vast difference between the amount of people in the USA that care about Baseball vs. Cycling. And that's reflected in the money that each generates and what goes on with the top attractions.

Again, as I mentioned in another thread, whatever Barry Bonds is accused of doing never fell under the purview of MLB drug policy, which went into effect in 2003. Believe me, if Bud Selig had any grounds to go after Barry, he would have by now.

Also highly doubt that the SF Giants would do anything at this point, considering they're paying him 15.8 million this season to play, and to fill seats.

But that's alright, things have to be stretched a bit if an analogy - albeit a bad one - is to be made.

Yeah, our sport is better, neener-neener! Our guys dope too, but at least we test 'em! So that makes us better...more audacious than you stick-and-ball-types, see?! Really, we're not weenies, we swear!

I'm sure the American public would buy into that. If they could only hear the whimpering.

What about the audacity of a rider who shows up to race in the crown jewel of pro cycling amid the largest doping scandals in the sport's history and tries to win it juiced?

... after signing a pledge to race clean?

Pretty large stones, if you ask me. And I think that they all have large pairs. Except for Lance. He has only one large one.

That pretty audacious. He should get the yellow jersey for audaciousness.

Yes, but at the time there was no rule in Major League Baseball banning performence enhancing drugs.

OP, what was your point? That Vino and Rasmussen are being treated unfairly, or that they should have been punished later in the off season...?

Yup, he had a normal sized head (both metaphorically and literally!) then also. But just think if he hadn't doped:

Actually Bonds never admitted to using anything. His trainer admitted to using it and Bonds and the trainer both said that Bonds did not know what was in the creams the trainer was using. The fact that his arms and neck grew 6 inches appear not to have been a sign that there was something going on.
