Vive Le Tour

That's what the huge crowds on the roadside in France are saying in hundreds of displays, signs, etc. That's what I say. The Tour de France is the most spectacular, unique, fabulous sporting event in the world. Doping can't change that. A rather large bump in the road perhaps, but I'm confident that this beautiful event in this wonderful sport that survived TWO WORLD WARS among other things will weather this crisis as well.

We're all fans. Vive Le France. Vive Le Tour.

You can add the Tour to the other entities that will survive Armageddon (Al Sharpton, Dick Pound and cockroaches).

I'm shocked that PETA (People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals) weren't there protesting the next day. I showed my dog Sam that video on You Tube and told him 'See, if you wander out in front of a bike race you might pretzel some bike weenie's $2000 wheel.' Sam wondered if it was edible as soon as I said 'pretzel'.

That would be an IWD, and Improvised Wayward Dog. The local insurgents use them to take down cyclists.

one more speed bump:
"A Danish newspaper is reporting that a jersey holder tested positive after Stage 14, when Contador edged Rasmussen, and that Christian Prudhomme will announce the result in a press conference at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Your jerseys at that point were Rasmussen, Contador (white), Soler (polka-dot), and Boonen (green).

Looks to be Soler according to http://www.hln.be as the barloworld room was searched by police

40mph on the bike path? Why doesn't Johann B. have a scout there? Oh, right I know why. Because those cyclists are really going 25mph. Maybe.

Oh, thanks, we can't have any spelling errors on BF. Ryanf would have an aneurism. Besides, Columbia is the right way to spell Colombia if you're not talking about Colombia.

I think he is tending to some massive guads, or a Guad Complex. Something about guads.

Anyway, I heard he is going to start charging for medical advice, so maybe we should leave him out of it.

No.

At least not until the "B" sample is in. Right now I'm wearing an "I Believe Tyler" button with "Tyler" scratched out and "Vino" written in in permanent marker.

I would agree that Vino is innocent until proven guilty. The problem with the doping situation in cycling is that it's getting to the point where if they don't adopt a hardcore zero tolerance approach - that may seem quite unfair at times, particularly to American sensibilities - I'm not sure they'll EVER get a handle on it. I'm thinking lifetime ban for any major doping infraction - but of course for a rider like Vino @ age 33, a two year hiatus is tantamount to a lifetime ban, and it didn't appear to dissuade him.

Very sad indeed. But the Tour will endure. Most of the riders appear to be clean these days. I think they are getting there. And the fans want their sport back.

This is the bottom line for me. I sure do. I am getting quite tired of explaining to my friends and co-workers why I like this sport since it is so dirty, which is (ironically) usually followed by a reference to good old "clean" American sports like the NFL and MLB.

Makes me want to hit somebody.
