Any women ever get busted for doping?

I don't really follow women's cycling(at all), but this pic caught me as funny.

I think that part of the reality is that testing isn't as extensive as it is in the big men's races. Doping controls cost a lot of money and to test extensively would probably bankrupt a lot of smaller races and even some bigger series.

There's no doubt in my mind that women at the higher levels of the sport are juiced just like the guys. The culture isn't that different.

As a former college hockey player, I would have to say that her biceps are very close to mine.

Laura VG does have a lot of muscle, but that does not make her a doper. I know some women who look like that because they lift weights a lot. A friend of mine who does wheelchair marathons is way more buff than most guys I know. Her upper arms are huge. Does that make her a doper? No.

I love the folks who claim that "so and so is a close personal friend and they definitely don't dope."

I mean, how many times do you think you'll see "Yeah, so and so is a close personal friend of mine and he/she is TOTALLY on the juice. Ever since the HGH and EPO he/she's really improved."

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but an exonerating statement from a close personal friend is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

That's not the point of the statement. The point I'm making is that just because a women is built and has muscle and doesn't look like the typical model guys gawk at - that doesn't make her a doper automatically. In this day and age it is great that women of many different sizes and shapes can find success in sport and many other things.

Theres very little controls but I do believe some have been busted, I just cant recall who. I know many women who are at a high level of the sport and go the whole year without ever being tested but no one really cares about womens races and they dont get paid crap.

By the way, I have a close personal friends who have totaly improved since doping. Found it out just a couple of weeks ago.

If it were really all about the money, though, then there wouldn't be dopers in the Cat 1/2/3 scene either. But there are.

I understand what you are saying, but replace that with a male head and you could not tell the difference. The pic just made me do a double take, which got me thinking about women's doping.

Cool, another Tommy thread.

You know I met her, I mean him, I mean her in person at a crit once. It was even scarier in person.

Back to the thread, yes chicks dope, no they don't get busted often, because like the good doc pete said, it's expensive.

She's been discussed here before. She's kind of cute in the pic of her on the cheerwine bio, but the few pictures of her in a race are intimidating; she definitely doesn't have the typical cyclist skinny upper body..

IIRC, Laura VG was racing in the Men's 1/2/3 at a local crit 'round here (Phillipsburg Crit, NJ, either '03 or '04), and was in 3rd place with one lap to go when she crashed out. After dusting herself off, she enterred the women's race, which was next ... and proceeded to win.

Anyone see this series of shots from cyclingnews last year of the US Nat'l Crit Championship in Downer's Grove, IL, where she got her foot caught in the front wheel of Tina Pic's bike and sent Pic for a header? Ouch! There's a close-up shot of Laura cornering about 6 photos in the series where her arms look Ahnold-esque!

I'll do you one better:

I was at that corner when that incident happened. It was pretty scary. LVG, contrary to what some internet reports stated, just came unclipped from her pedal.

Just sayin' ... she's got more impressive arms than I ever did after 2 years of straight weight lifting.

Makes me wonder what I should have done to get guns like that.
