Vande Velde to Team Slipstream

Awesome move by Vaughters and Slipstream.

And while I'm not a fan of Millar (it leaves a slight bad taste in my mouth that Slipstream, a team at the forefront of anti-doping, picks up a convicted rider. oh well), he'll be a great mentor for some of their younger riders.

I heard that too... I thought they weren't allowed to announce that yet?

Millar paid his debt and has now been pretty vocal about getting drugs out of the sport. How would you feel if you made a mistake, paid your dues, changed your mind about it, then had someone say something like that?

I think it's great, too.

Though he will never escape that "nothing worse than a reformed sinner" thing. It's human nature.

You're allowed to announce if the current team allows it. So CSC allowed Vdv to make the announcement. Well at least I hope so.

I heard rumors of Millar but nothing else so I must have missed something.

Zabriskie is going there as well. Vaughters also stated that a 'recent Paris-Roubaix' winner is coming to the team.

Would be cool having DZ in the argyle.

Also he needs to go back to his old website, it was way funnier.

Millar played the system so he didn't get the 2 + 2 ban current "positives" get. He lied and cheated, now he's above it all and willing to be a media ***** on the subject.

It's a lot like a former alcoholic who, rather than working quietly at AA meeting to support people, stand outside of bars and rail at the demon rum and those who imbibe.

Same arrogance and self importance, new shtick.

Me good. You bad.

Give me a break.

If all these reports are true, where is Vaughters getting the money to pay these guys?

I think things are going pretty well for Slipstream these days. It's all but certain that they'll get a TDF bid in the next couple years, and with all the anti-doping measures they're taking, I'd say they're fairly attractive to sponsors.

Big Magnus in argyle would be cool.

As for Millar, yeah, he lied, but he came clean (pun intended) and did his time without further denials or a deathbed confession to ease his conscience. That counts for something in my book.

How much to get a Bike Forums logo on the Slipstream jerseys? Let's pass the hat....

Chipotle restaurants is rumoured to be the title sponsor and the guy who owns the team is a Wall Street muckity-muck. There's plenty of $ behind the team. There's also talk of a Belgian co-sponsor floating around.

Doug Ellis

I believe "Ellis" is Latin for "I have a sh*tload of $$$$"

I have no knowledge, but I noticed in Millar's Bicycling diary that he is exchanging emails with Stuey O'Grady. Maybe just as former teammates. Anyway, just throwing it out.

The secondary sponsors have stepped up but Vaughters has said he would still need a new title sponsor to buy a good GC rider.
