I'm betting that an A sample has come back non-negative and Disco has been informed of this. Why else would JB be accompanying him?

I hope I'm wrong.

That would have surely been leaked by now.

More likely that he'll admit to having been one of Fuentes's clients. That will get him a lot of scorn but they won't be able to strip him of his title. They might have been able to prevent him from starting had it been exposed earlier but if he's cleared to start they'd have to let him keep the win (barring positive samples during the race)... I mean, wouldn't they?

Another possibility: He's suing Franke for slander.

My guess is that, having now had a chance to review tapes of the 2007 race, he plans to announce that Bob Roll and Al Trautwig are in fact his preferred TDF commentators.

Probably even less than that, something like "OK, I met with Fuentes, and thought about working with him, but we only ever discussed approved vitamins and I decided not to pursue a relationship with him in the end."

In other words: Basso.

They're going to announce Santander as the new team sponsor for next year.

JB speaks English quite a bit better than Alberto does.

Your guess is as good as anyone's. We'll have to wait for Friday - or for the leak tomorrow.

btw - What's the deal with Floyd's case?

Given that he's reading a prepared statement in spain and taking no questions, I doubt he's there to translate, but I do agree he may be there to show Disco is behind AC and the allegations of his doping.

So what did AC do to piss of the UCI?

Oh right - He voiced his displeasure about the Ras getting tossed to Spanish media.

Who knew id get to see something akin to the Salem witchcraft trials all over again in my lifetime?

I didn't understand the VeloNews article to mean that he's taking no questions at all, but rather just not until the statement is read - i.e., don't waste your time trying to get info early.

I'd also suspect that if there's some doping announcement of any sort, it would've been leaked already. The precedent for that type of thing seems to be pretty strong as I see it. Hopefully it's just something to do with the 2008 sponsorship, Contador switching (to Slipstream? - ), or something else relatively tame in comparison.

If they were announcing a new sponsor you'd think they would do it with Lance and the whole team.

quote from VN, " he will decline to answer reporters' questions after he reads a prepared statement." and "the Discovery rider 'will not offer a press conference after the reading of the communiqué.'"

Pretty clear from the quoted sections that he will not be answering questions. Unless of course he answers them BEFORE the prepared statement. But that would seem rather silly.

Weird - that quote and the one at the end of the article (the one I was thinking of during my post) seem almost contradictory:
Contador's Wednesday news release did not state a reason for the announcement, and added that the Discovery rider "will not offer a press conference after the reading of the communiqué."
Not sure what to make of that. A press conference would seem weird without a question/answer session afterwards. If no Q&A, they could just issue a statement for print on the AP or something...

Its definetly not a sponsorship announcement, that would involve Tailwind Sports management as well as JB and current high profile disco riders.

It definetly has to do with doping, the question is whether its a new announcement or a response to the current allegations.

Whatever it is I hope that he retains his title. The last thing I'd want to see is Cadel as the winner of the '07 TDF.
