Disk Brakes
Would disk brakes give a substantial advantage on a descent? A rider could have carbon rims and not worry about overheating, and would be able to delay braking until later in the turn, as in motorcycle racing.

Ive always understood it that standard brakes, with hydraulic controls, give the best feel. Racers dont use them though. They opt for the cable pull, because it is more reliable. I dont think you would get a great feel for the brakes with discs. Road bikes just dont weight enough.

I opined in another thread that they're probably coming. I understand the biggest knock on them right now is weight. "Downhill racers" bring their bikes up via ski lift but roadies have to climb the mountain first.
Sooner or later the weight issue wil be resolved and then I think they'll come esp. in races that feature long descents for the reasons you mentioned.
The retrogrouch in me cringes but racing always has and always will push the envelope.
