Backwards Helmet Cam Video!

This one's backwards- e.g. mounted looking back.

40 lap points race! and I even catch a crash!

It's my last 4 race as I just got upgraded to 3 (and I had to race a 60 lap points race last night. bleh.)

Here's the link

Enjoy!

Thanks Obra3! I have considered the reverse mount as well. Wouldn't a split screen forward/backward be the best??

obra3 08-17-07 01:00 PM

That would entail two cameras.

;)

DocRay 08-17-07 01:31 PM

This trumps my ASSCAM™ idea (patent pending).

superdex 08-17-07 01:39 PM

who's the guy racing in shants?

Chad's Colnago 08-17-07 01:46 PM

That was cool, thanks for the vid. You can imagine some of the looks I got around the office once "Zuit Suit Riot" began to emit from my computer.

TRaffic Jammer 08-17-07 01:55 PM

woot! fun stuff!!!

tekhna 08-17-07 02:35 PM

Great video! What were the speeds like throughout most of this?

That's Clint from Team Beer. He did pretty well last night, now that the K-Man is up in the 3's where he belongs. ;)

Going off Alpenrose's published distance of 268.43m, and lap times of 24.5s and 25s for the first two full breakaway laps, I get 24.3mph (I used the sun's glare in the center of the video as the lap start/finish).

I think its been done. In Moto GP racing, they sometimes mount a forward looking camera in back of the seat. All you see is Valentino Rossi's huge, fish-eye lens distorted ass going from one side to the other on the turns, and then popping straight up on the straights.

Nobody wants to see that.

Check out the traffic cycling clips at this website:

http://www.cyclistview.com

They have two helmet cams.

In this clip, one guy flips between forward and rearward cams:

http://cyclistview.com/lanecontrol.htm

These two guys also ride one in front of the other, with the one in front using the rearward cam and the one behind using forward cams, then they splice it all together, like this:

http://cyclistview.com/trafficskills.htm

Needless to say, they know what they're doing with helmet cams as well as riding in traffic.

Um, you say "that's Cindi's voice in the background". Doesn't that become the foreground with a backward camera? I'm confused.

Great video. Great music.
Keep doing those.

Where I belong... :roflmao:

You know that quote was totally unscripted. Clint's out at Alpenrose a lot and it's really cool. I've seen him at Tabor too. I know Candi is tickled- she's received an honorary Team Beer membership and has a TEAM BEER jersey/tye-died t-shirt.

The 3's race wasn't all that bad yesterday. The 60 laps sucked with no warm-up. DOH!

Hmm... that cyclistview is getting me to think about mounting two cams. One facing forward mounted on the helmet and the other one mounted under the seat.

I convinced a pro rider to ride use the helmet cam during the upcoming Health Net Crit. hehehehehe.

Forget it. Dorna got that covered with the Valentino Rossi's on bike cam. Watch a MotoGP race sometime. I swear, every onboard from Rossi's bike is a shot of his butt. They dont do it with any of the other riders. Just him.

Cool video, you always use decent tunes as wel.

That should make for a good video. Will I see you in the 3s race?

obra3 08-19-07 11:44 PM

I registered for Health Net but unfortunately I won't be there. With that new contract job I have to head out to Hood to Coast then directly over to Bend on Sunday by 8 AM.

SaddleBags 08-20-07 09:13 AM

Nice video. I thought I recognized that Vanderkitten on your site. Meow.

DocRay 08-20-07 09:54 AM

The ASSCAM™ was actually going to be inserted up the anus of the rider, batteries, antenna and all, for the sake of aerodynamics.

With modern bikes being so light and the UCI 15lb rule, they should get riders to wear cameras, F1 style.
