Floyd's innocent...

OK...so I just got back from a wet, rainy weekend in the country, with nothing to do but sit around the lake house and relax and read. I read Floyd's "Positively False" book.

I'm sorry, but I just don't think he's guilty of anything.

But to me, the best part of the book are the parts when he talks about the all-out, swear-fest with LA in the peloton. Man, there was some good inside stuff in there, from the amounts Floyd was getting paid to the battles between him, LA and Johan. Good stuff...

Wait what battle between him, LA and Johan? You mean like when they dumped out the bag of blood he was going to use the next day after he told them he wasnt riding for USPS the next season?

You know I almost believe Floyd was innocent until when on real sports he said that he never saw any doping as a pro cyclist ever.

The knock-down, drag-out screaming fest they had at each other during a stage. They didn't talk for a year after that. LA went ballistic on him.

Kool Aid or not...everybody's gotta take a stand on something at some point. I say he's innocent.

And even if he is not...man, some of the details in this book about how the testing went about and what was wrong with it...what a screwed up bunch running the entire program. It's laughable.

You think he's publish a book called If I Did It?

I want Floyd to be innocent, but taking a book that he had written for him as proof ain't the way to make it so.

True.
But after reading it, it all sort of came back to me how I felt in the beginning about all this. I felt he's innocent until proven guilty, which they can't do. They have a broken system that's a joke. They give a trophy and then try to MAYBE take it away more than a year later?

That's insane.

I don't think he did anything illegal.
It was my gut reaction when it happened, and then I let other's opinions...people I saw as 'knowing more than me about cycling from their years in and around it....change my mind.

I'm back to my gut on this.
The guy got screwed.

His life will never be the same now.
Heck, before reading the book I didn't even know about the suicide in the family...which may very well have had to do with the accusations.

(and by the way...had you been up here riding with me I wouldn't have sitting around reading his book at the lake house!)

floyd don't know sh1t about testing, and his lawyers try hard but they aren't experts either. he got caught with high testosterone, exogenous too. now either he put it there, or someone else did, but the point is that his sample came up positive, and that's it. over. end of story. bye bye.

Wow, so even his expert defense witnesses, like the guy who was offered the position as head of the USADA (I think USADA, maybe WADA) lab in LA? You think maybe he knows a little something about it? Maybe even more than you?!?

Nah, probably not, right? How could he.

They know a lot more than you, he didn't have a high testosterone level- in fact it was kind of low according to the LNDD paperwork. Instead the two samples tested with two vastly different but still too high ratios of Testosterone to Epitesterone4.5 (4.5:1 and 11:1). A T:E ratio greater than 4:1 is considered a possible sign of doping which triggers further of the samples. That further testing (RMS) showed possible exogenous testosterone (positive only in that particular lab, every other lab would have shown a negitive) in his samples. However, all that testing hinges on the purity of the samples. In any lab the vastly different results from the T:E tests would indicate something wrong with the samples. They should be within a certain percent of each other (WADA' standard is 30% I think). The increase of 4.5:1 to 11:1 is a 144% change. The samples were contaminated and honest labs not dealing with doping would throw away the samples and get new ones (impossible in this case).

I don't know if Landis was doping, I really don't know and don't care. I do not, however, believe that USADA made its case against him. They only convinced the choir and discredited themselves in the process.

Trevor, this is Bikeforums. Facts and details are unimportant.

Imagine if any of these guys had to submit to a drug test to get or stay employed and it was going to this lab.

Yeah, I know but that is my pet peeve.

I wouldn't want any of my fluids going to a WADA lab- it might show just about anything.

If a major US cyclist wrote a book saying pigs' fly, BF members would be scanning the skies with binoculars.

This, from the poster that thinks Vinokourov tested positive for steriods, then went on a diatribe about US riders getting defended and then Vino's guilty "for the same thing."

Which made us laugh...and further revealed your agenda.

At least try to know what you are complaining about.

And while you are worrying about what's up with US bike racers, maybe you can all get your your own house in order.

Wow! That is ignorant.

Even if real (unknown but for the sake of argument I'll seed), IV bags are normally saline. They can be injected with lots of other stuff but IV bags are generally just salty water and salty water isn't banned (although water is clearly a performance enhancing substance- try riding without it). With the amount of work the pros do they simply cannot replace their water by drinking- no matter what the people from Gatoraid want you to believe. Without IVs the riders simply could not compete as they do- they would dehydrate and have to stop or die.

As a side note, IVs are the best cure for hangovers.
