Like these motherf*****s didn't know there was systematic doping all those years!
Son-of -a-b**** this crap pisses me off.
Sponsors pulling the plug on millions of dollars worth of salaries, livelihoods and dreams.
T-Mobile can eat my Enron hating shorts.
Business ethics, now that's an oxymoron.
Sportsmen look like angels compared to those pansy stockholders!!!

That said, Hincapie will now find his way onto a real classics team, like he always should have (ala Boonen).

Dubbayoo 11-27-07 11:01 AM

Effectively immediately. Wow! I think this mostly falls in the lap of Patrik Sinkewitz. I'm sure they didn't like the way he was piece mealing out his confessions. If you're going to come clean do it all at once. He denies, then admits, then 'tells all' to get a shorter sentence, then every time people start to forget he spits out another tidbit about somebody else. I'm sure T-Mobile didn't want to go thru an entire season of that. I don't blame them. I can't believe he thinks he'll get a shot with another team....and he thinks HE'S the one that got thrown under the bus. He was DRIVING the bus. How can they have enough money to pay everyone without T-Mobile?

So.....Hincapie to Astana or Slipstream? ;)

kukusz 11-27-07 11:06 AM

They will continue racing under the name "Team High Road".

That is the lamest name of any team, ever.

waterrockets 11-27-07 11:23 AM

Sounds like they are now "Team High Road"

BERLIN, Nov 27 (Reuters) - The old T-Mobile team will continue in elite cycling next year under the new name "Team High Road" after Deutsche Telekom decided to end its sponsorship.

"High Road Sports, Inc. holds a ProTour Team Licence and will seek authorisation of the change in the team's identity and operations from the governing body, the UCI," High Road Sports said in a statement on Tuesday.

The new team will continue to be led by Bob Stapleton, the American who attempted to launch a new and cleaner era after taking over last year.

That attempt to turn over a new leaf was only partially successful.

In the biggest blow to the team's image, Patrik Sinkewitz tested positive for testosterone, with the result becoming known during the Tour de France, and was subsequently sacked.

Sinkewitz then confessed to having used the blood-boosting drug EPO from 2003, when he still rode for the Quick Step team, to 2006, when he was at T-Mobile.

T-Mobile also sacked Italian rider Lorenzo Bernucci this year after a failed doping test, while severing its ties with two doctors, Andreas Schmid and Lothar Heinrich, who are suspected of producing performance-enhancing drugs and administering them to athletes.

Officers from Germany's Federal Crime Office (BKA) recently raided the homes and laboratories of the two doctors.

"T-Mobile's decision to end its involvement in professional cycling is a challenge for the sport and our team," Stapleton said in a statement on Tuesday.

"We have an outstanding international roster of exciting young talent backed by proven veteran leadership for 2008.

"We will likely be the youngest team in the ProTour and believe that together, these athletes can shape the future of the sport with their talent and commitment." (Reporting and writing by Kevin Fylan in Bremen; editing by Miles Evans)

For all the German criticism / antics over doping, they sure produce a fukload of caught dopers. Must be an Eastern bloc thing.

All the teams have corporation names, many of which are really stupid.

Im not sure why but I hope he doesnt go to either of those teams. I agree with YMCA in that I hope he goes to a true classics team.

biffstephens 11-27-07 12:47 PM

I don't think GH will go anywhere personally. They are still going to have the team...still going to races...I am sure there is an exit clause in the contract....so I bet they have money for a year.....

Also I think they will get a sponcer pretty quick....I wouldn't be surprised if we never saw a "Team High Road" jersey.....

I think it is good anyway...the Germans have been telling us for a long time they were not going to put up with it.....well, they didn't....

I would love to see more US coverage of racing though....:)

Gutted and angry....
Still, Big George to Astana? Wiggins to Slipstream? The launch of the new Brit Pro team?

divineAndbright 11-27-07 04:03 PM

I've been walking the earth long enough to know that anyone or thing that professes to be holier than thou more often than not have more to hide and are usually more guilty of that which they protest against. Team High Road just painted a HUGE bullseye on themselves.

I hope George gets out.

Yep, George is and always has been 100% clean and should not associate with known dopers.

The Germans are full of crap. I noticed they held a Golden League meet a few months ago in Stuttgart, and the Budeslige is still running.

Are you serious??? George knows how lucky he is to have never been indicated in the past and wanted to align himself with an in-depth testing program to make sure of a classy finish to his career. Name one person from the old US Postal team with a halo above their head.

No Captain Serious, I'm not.

Okay, Captain Sarcastic. Sorry, but it just never ceases to amaze me how naive people still are about their "champions".

In a related note, their new jersey design has been unveiled.

ninjaman 11-27-07 11:57 PM

Ha!

Trevor98 11-28-07 05:51 AM

The team will definitely have a problem finding a new sponsor willing to kick out the same amount of money. The team is a business and most likely has a year to find a new sponsor or fail as a business. T-Mobile had a huge operating budget and replacing those monies will be difficult. I wouldn't be surprised to see the team fall apart at the end of next year.

I stopped being naive long ago. Having just finished reading The Death Of Marco Pantani, even more so.

George is not exactly a 'champion' either. He's a very very good rider who's won a few races when he hasnt had to be a super domestique. Nothing more, nothing less. To me, he seems to be too laid back to do well in what will have to be a very rigid, controlling and personally invasive system, that a team like High Road will have to be. I dont see him heading to Slipstream, for the same reasons.

ninjaman 11-28-07 11:14 AM

Haven't read that one yet, but just read Lance to Landis by David Walsh, it's a great read.
