Mac Software for Power Meter downloads

Cslone alerted me to this. We'll both be downloading the trial version over the next couple of weeks:

https://www.physfarm.com/tech/

If anyone has any experience with this, your feedback would be very valuable.

Looks cool, though I really can't justify spending another $100 over cyclingpeaks. I already have a windows pc to use cycling peaks.

Though I guess I will try out the trial.

If something like this would have come out sooner then I might have considered it. But yeah, I don't want to pay another $99. Additionally, I like the fact that trainingpeaks coach version is less expensive and lets you have more athletes in the database. Although I am not a coach, I do power testing for friends and family using my powertap wheel, so it's nice to be able to store their data.

I know that trainingpeaks is working on a mac version of their software. Last spring they were looking for beta testers. Anyone know when this will actually be out on the market?

Any Mac software in this area will save me the inestimable grief (and about $280) of VMWare/Windows purchase and installation. That's a fair amount of dough and time. I just got a PowerTap SL, so the timing on this Mac saftware is perfect for me. IF it actually works.

Let us know how it goes... I have Parallels, but would much rather stay in OSX.

I know it isn't the greatest, but Saris puts out a Mac (and Linux) version of Power Agent. Given that it is free, the price is definitely right.

https://www.saris.com/c-12-software.aspx?skinid=2

You have to register - but it doesn't check if you put in garbage.

if your mac is intel you could get bootcamp and just boot into that.. it would save on your vm ware cost. you could also try https://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/ it has a free trial... and its only 60 bucks...

I wasn't aware of this option. I downloaded the Saris package, I'll try it soon. Right now the road is too messy for the Powertap -salt, ice, etc. Hope to get out there with it this week.

WOW! thanks for that - this looks great especially since I was thinking of putting up the bucks for parallels and windows and cyclingpeaks - huge price break if it works as well as advertised.

by the way anyone have experience with both golden cheetah and poweragent - I am going to start off with one of those and I'm not sure which is best????

pcad, I feel your pain. I run Linux on all my machines and went through hell getting CyclingPeaks to work with it (and detect USB). In the end, I'm using VMware server to virtualise WinXP *JUST* to run WKO+.

Hiya,

Phil Skiba here. I'm the guy responsible for RaceDay, and I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

To answer your question: RaceDay does NOT calculate NP and TSS. NP and TSS are trademarks of CyclingPeaks.

We include a program with RaceDay called TriUtilities, which calculates xPower (TM) and BikeScore (TM) directly from the .CSV files downloaded by Power Agent. xPower and BikeScore are our next-generation training metrics. (I'm happy to explain how they are calculated, if you like.) They work as well as NP and TSS for modeling and training analysis. We're working on the white paper.

I know people sometimes balk at the idea of paying for another program. However, I have a couple of comments on that front.

1) As a company, we are committed to supporting Mac (and shortly, Linux), which is a rarity in this market. CP has made it clear that they no intention of doing either (at least, that was Hunter's commentary on the Wattage group, I believe).

2) Our modeling algorithms are based upon the peer-reviewed equations in the scientific literature: calculus. It permits a much more exacting model that CP's product does. It also optimizes the constants of the equation (our equations have 4 constants, as opposed to 2 in CP). In other words, you don't have to guess them. The software finds them intelligently.

3) RaceDay also calculates derivatives (the effect, or influence curve)...it allows you to to see exactly how training on any given day affects your race performance, positively or negatively.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that. I'm not much of a salesman. Any questions, fire away!

Best,
Phil

Well, he is the one responsible for the program.

And Dr Phil, can we work something out like Dr. Coggan getting a $1 for each copy sold? I DID bring this to Pcad's attention. Wait, didn't Dr. Andy contribute something to Cycling Peaks?

Hi Phil,

I haven't explored your product much so this may have been answered on a website but, will you offer a 30-day trial like CP does?

Edit: one click to the website and I see that yes, you do offer a trial. Thanks!

I downloaded the trial but when I try to enter the key, it gives an error "Missing registration code".

The difference is Pcad and I brought up the product. I don't think many would consider you a shill at this point.

Shill away good Doctor! I'm getting back on the bike tonight after a 10 day hiatus. Gonna DL this and see what it does.

I have not looked at the documentation yet, but I'm trying to figure out how to import my CSV data from my Powertap into Raceday. Anyone figured that out?

edit: I see, you import your own values. You can use TSS, TRIMP, whatever metric you want to rate your training dose.

Very interesting.

Please present the equations used and any applicable references from the literature. Please do not present a layman’s explanation.

I'll bet even money it's Bannisters TRIMP eq just with a small change in the way Ws in calculated.

As for "derivative analysis" that is most likely just the current slope of a given training impulse (workout). Eg the slope of the performance line in the plot below as it changes over time.

Correct, you can use whatever input you like. You also should have downloaded the free trial of triutilities (it accepts the RaceDay registration code). This will allow you to calculate BikeScore directly from the .CSV file from your PowerTap. Alternatively (for those interested in open source freeware) you can download SRM to Golden Cheetah, and export a CSV from there. It should work just fine.

Shill. Phil the Shill.

Lighten up Dr. , this is BF, aka BBBF (BB stands for ball busting). Glad there's a Mac option for power meter software. Thanks for the feedback and offers of support too.
