Powertap came in.... now what
Think ive got it all setup correctly (time, date, etc) but got a question.....
How do you start/stop recording when your ride starts/stops? The manual really does suck and either its not there or I missed it.

When the ride ends, there is some settings about when it stops records, and when it shuts off.
Although the manual is slightly a PITA, go through the setup stuff for your powertap, it is helpful and allows you to set your recording rate, averaging on display, etc.

Went through the setup and think im ok there.... To start recording for a new ride to you "clear" before the ride? Just want to make sure my rides dont run together when I look at the data

Don't clear before a ride unless you have downloaded what's on it.
If you do multiple rides, the download will break them out into time blocks. You can merge them or keep them separate and save them. So, if you get a flat on a long ride, you can merge the two parts, but if you commute in the morning and evening, you can leave those separate, for example.
Don't worry about stopping it. When you see how the graphs come out, you won't care at all about the entire ride. There's no stress about a 95W cooldown at the end of the ride, you can just ignore it, create intervals around your efforts, and study those (this is all with PowerAgent).

Why does everyone think the Saris software is so bad? I'm running it on my Mac and it seems to have the basics. What does Cycling Peaks offer over that (besides Normalized Power)?

Better graphs, season-by-season tracking, comparison of two date ranges, options in terms of graph display, integration with GPS, ability to upload directly to TrainingPeaks.com, email data straight from the program, etc.

Vs. the nightmare of having to purchase Windows and VM ware (at a cost of nearly $300) and get it to run on your Mac? Um.. I think I'll try to work with my Powertap SL with this setup. Doesn't it cover the basics of what you really need for a PM training program boys?

The performance manager and the ability to create custom graphs are my favorite features. IF, TSS, TSB, CTL, ATL, NP, all good. You can do it with a spreadsheet, but it's just a nice place to do it.

Tell her that I've spent ~$3K in the last two years. About 700 hours. And then show her my power #'s.

They looked into a Mac version in '06, any idea if they have revisited offering a Mac version.

I asked this exact question to Andrew Coggan in another thread... though he is not directly linked to the program, he obviously knows the "author" and said he did not think they were looking at moving it to the mac.
