How can you be a sandbagger if your in the p123 class?

Collegiate C road race DePauw University. Really fast pace and sprint started super early. Finished 16 out of like 70? maybe. 8 mile course with about 350 feet of climbing a lap, but all the hills were just rollers so you only had to climb the last half of the hill. Crit tomorrow.

Maybe you've got what it takes to cut it as a 2 without increasing your training volume?

i race today. my right calf cramped up,fell off the back (probably more from pure suckage than the cramp) on a 9 mile loop. somehow, my last lap was slightly faster than my first though. i guess it was because people thought it would be a good idea to brake on descents

- that and the idiot police officer directing traffic at an intersection had us turn the wrong way. by the time they realized it, most of our 80 or so field was going the wrong way.

I started a thread in the socal forum, but the short of it was that I am pretty much a permanent mid-packer. Got somewhere around 30th out of 60, but at least I outsprinted my group. Bottom line is that climbing is my limiter, I have to lose about 15 pounds to be competitve climbing again. Edit: I never thought I would say this, but I am starting to like crits and am actually looking forward to tomorrow's. Should be interesting, there is a prime on every lap...

If you loose 15 lbs the amount of power that would be lost at a result would not give you the power to weight ratio to be a better climber-
For your height your weight is more than fine...

Have your body fat checked. Try to get it to 6% if you can - ssssllloooowwwwllllyyy. And find big, nasty hills and repeat them often.

Nice job sub. I like the agression. And the sweet $10 check helps with some of the gas.

Not a sandbagger in this case. Maybe they mean that if he's still a cat 3, then he'll be a sandbagger in a Cat 3 only race.

Good job everyone. My first race is tomorrow.

Well... it was only 20K... and I eat a lot at night. junkie stuff I know I shouldn't. I can grab a lot of "stuff" on my thighs, stomach, and love handle area. Last tested I was 15% bf. I know I can be 135 without losing power, thats what I was when I had my best climbing performance. Edit: plus I've gained about 5 pounds since I cut my mileage way down.

Are speaking about UMD specifically? If so, yes, that could make sense.

But, if you're speaking in general terms, there are plenty of racers who could lose 15lbs and not lose any power.

Hell, I hit the scales at 142 this morning, and I'm planning on losing 5lbs more.
