TT Wheel help

40k out and back time trial tomorrow. Wind will most likely be 10-15mph coming from the 1 o'clock direction for the first 10k and then a right cross for 10k a left cross for 10k and from the 7 o'clock position on the way back.

I'm going to run a 404 on front and I am committed to running my PT wheel on the back. The question is should I run it without the disc covers (it is an Open Pro) or with the disc covers. I'm 195# so the wind does not bother me quite as much as lighter riders, but would the energy fighting the cross-wind for 20k cost me more than the aerodynamic advantage of running it as a disc?

Thanks for your help.

Disc cover. Even in a direct cross wind a disc is show to be more aero.

And 10-15 mph wind shouldn't give you any significant handling problems, particularly at your size.

Really? I've never run them in anything but still air. I'm pleasantly surprised.

You shouldn't fight a crosswind anyway. Relax and barely lean into it. If you concentrate on staying straight, you aren't concentrating on going fast. If you're relaxed and focusing on going forward, you only need to barely think about the crosswind to keep the rubber down.

Disc it up my friend. One day, invest in a lenticular disc, and you will find crosswinds a trifling matter. Good luck tomorrow, wish I had a 40k this early in the season!

Other than a hillclimb, there's no reason not to run your disc.

Good luck!

Seems pretty unanimous. They have increased the projected winds to 25mph tomorrow, but from what I am reading it looks like I should still run the covers. Also, thanks for the advice on relaxing with the crosswind. As a big guy I often try to simply power through such things.
