I gotta get new friends

Here's (yet another) newsflash: the 'racing for real' only counts to you. You silly, deluded friggin WEENIES. If I could ever find the words to convey the utter apathy of the entire universe outside of our silly little circle to this sport, I would put them here.
Happily, that will never be possible. By the way 'Word' is just a component of Microsoft Office that doesn't handle graphics very well.

Why is she shouting that?
She knows Hinault fell into a ravine, but not the names of the classics he won. Classics? She knows everything about Poupou, but she's never heard of Milan-San Remo, has no idea what a forty-three nineteen is...
Never will I be able to make clear to her that I don't race because I wanted to lose weight, because turning thirty horrified me, because I was dissatisfied with cafe life, because I wanted to write this book, or because of anything else at all, but purely and simply because it's road racing. And even if she believed that, how much less could I make her see that I've got a smidgen of what it takes, without her thinking that I'd been lying in that ravine beside Hinault.
'Hey, pretty girl, I came in seventeenth in the Milan-San Remo.'
'Seventeenth? How many came in after you?'"

Here's a take on it that I posses. They think I'm a moron for spending a ton of money to race (gas, food, registration, hookers for the after party). Maybe I am. But there is abso-fricken-lutely no substitute to the rush of a being in a three man break and getting chewed up and spit out at the line with your tongue getting caught in the spokes of your blazing hot wheels. I don't give a shid how many city limit signs I win or how many times I get to the coffee house first. It just doesn't matter until I come home with my internal organs pinned to my back bone. So I say let them scoff - the jags.

All you gotta say is, "I didn't see you there, did I?"
Have all these haters that are giving you a hard time actually raced at all?

Look at the women's race results for the last two weekends.
There, you'll see the name Casey Gale. She's 20 and been riding for about 9 months. She 5'5" and 125lbs. She races a $450, used Trek 1000 that doesn't really fit her quite right. She didn't finish worse than 4th in any of the open women's races.
A few weeks ago, we were running down into one of the little towns around here, lined out at 30+ (no exaggeration). @ 250, I jumped hard in the 12 and rolled it up to just over 40 and easily won the town limit sprint. 1500 watts...
I sit up and look around and Casey is about 8 lengths behind me...the rest of the 'racers' are 20 lengths back. Casey rolls up beside me and says..."That was cool! I've never gone that fast before!" She was just happy to be there. The very next ride, on a long climb, she swung out to go in the middle of the climb and those same 'racers' were scrambling for her wheel!
A lot of male egos are gonna get badly bruised by that little girl, and rightly so.

I will be living there come May-June for 18 months. Hopefully I can find a team to race on for the summer.

For those who haven't read it, the quote is from The Rider, by Tim Krabbe. Excellent read.

Yup, just emailed them. Seeing what they have. Looks like that will probable be my team then. I assume there are races within 30min-1hr from Charleston most weekends?
