Mountain Classifications

Is there a link somewhere to explain how they come up with mountain classifications for the bike races (HC, Cat 1, Cat 2, etc.)? I know it has to do with length & grade, but it is subjective to some committee or is there some listing somewhere to explain it?

There's no hard and fast formula. Organizers look at length, grade, and the climb's location in the race (is it a mountaintop finish?) to determine the classification.

Actually, that's kind of bogus... or maybe it's dated and they've gotten more liberal with the categorization.
