skinsuit number pinning
I give up. I pinned my number on my skinsuit last weekend, pulled on the suit and the pins shot out and hit a guy across the parking lot. He looked like pinhead from the hell raiser movies. So what is the trick to doing this if you do not have someone with you to pin them after the suit is on.

If there's nobody around to pin it for you, why do you need a number?

I always had someone pin it on me. If none of my teammates were around, I'd ask any racer I knew. Last resort, ask a stranger who doesn't look *****exual or sadistic.
I now race in only jerseys, though. I've got a lot of work to do on the engine before I can actually benefit froma skinsuit.

Put it on and THEN pin your number. A quick double check in the car window and you're good to go.

I bring a pillow with me, a kingsize pillow works great. Put the skinsuit on the pillow, pin the number.

I don't understand how there is any tension on the safety pin, in any direction other than perpendicular to the pinning section itself, after you put your number on.
I mean, if you're double pinning it like you should be doing, the tension pretty much locks the pin in place.

Sorry guys, but my answer is pretty easy. It's called super 77. No numbers acting like a parachute, you can put it low on your arse, and out of the wind entirely.
Cheap and I use it for all of my TTs. Use simple green to get it off your skinsuit afterwards (though I usually leave it on for a sticky base layer for the next TT).

However, I usually just find someone to pin it on for me -- a teammate, a friends wife, and in a pinch, a total stranger.

Does this work on regular jerseys?

yea, that stuff is amazing. Your jersey looks like crap when you don't have a number on for the season though. (I only clean the glue off at the end of each season)

Yep, and you don't have to do a "season long number" either.
1. Put number, number side down, on pavement.
2. Spray back of number for 2-3 seconds with Super 77 from about 12-15" away.
3. Wait about 15-25 seconds.
4. Touch back of number with finger. Should be tacky, not mushy.
5. Slap on back of jersey/skinsuit. Make sure corners are on tight. If it's too un-sticky, redo steps 1-4 but wait less time.
6. Race. Enjoy no flapping.
7. After race, peel number off jersey. There should be no residue (if there is, you put it on when it was mushy, not tacky).
8. Wash and dry jersey as usual.

+1. It's a skinsuit, you aren't wearing it when you aren't racing.
