LowCel I'm guessing they didn't give it to you the first time b/c of field sizes? If so you should travel to NC or the DC area to get some larger fields and points that count. Just looking at your results it looks like it could have been harder to get the 9 out of 52 in the Race at the Lakes, Athens Ohio then the 1 out of 15 in Deer Creek Ohio.

Actually I think it may have been denied because they are Team Columbus races. The first time I attempted was on 4/6. At that time I only had two seconds and one win, hopefully the new results will be better. If not then I give up.

I can't justify driving twelve hours a weekend (round trip to dc) or ten hours a weekend (round trip to Charlotte). It's expensive enough just driving to Ohio.

As for the 1 out of 15 at Deer Creek I have to disagree with you. That was a solo breakaway that hurt like hell!

Consider re-submitting, review the USAC rules for the information that is required and make sure you have all your "i"s dotted and "t"s crossed. Since you have small field sizes, which will count against you, you need to be sure that you're giving all the relevant info to "sway" the coordinator that you are deserving of the upgrade. I have no idea about yours, but some coordinators will just reject your request without even reviewing it (which is within their rights) since you didnt include all the required information.

Bingo. Kirk has said that Tym Tyler's races WILL NOT be considered for upgrades. So he's going to see your list, cross off all the Tyler races, see that not much is left, and tell you no.

I agree that sucks.

For people out of the area, it's not the size or distance that will be a problem. It's about a spat between one organizer (Tym Tyler) and USAC. The quality of (many of) Tym's races has been going down for a while. USAC decided to play hardball.

Kirk isn't my rep so I'm hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.

In Tym's defense I have to say that the quality of his races has really increased lately. The courses have been marked and the *******, corner marshalls, and the cops have been awesome. It's really a shame that Tym and USAC can't get their issues resolved. The prizes have even been much better than in the past. The only downsides to his races lately have been participation and not being USAC.

The rep responded with a very positive response. Told me that I was very close to the upgrade and that he expected to hear back from me with another request in the near future.

Wow.... From others with similar results as you they have given the upgrades (biggest difference is field size though).

Good luck!

Quick tally says you have about 29 points, 9 over the required 20 points, using the new weighted system. You should be fine. 5 top 5s (not counting the one 3/24/07 because it isn't in the 12 month period) and 8 top 10 finishes. Good luck!

One more point and you would technically have a forced upgrade.

Oh yeah, I forgot you're in WV. Good luck.

Whenever they reschedule Bull Run, it had pretty big packs and enough distance to get good points. Don't know how far a drive that is for you, though.

wow - different world I tell ya. I have not raced one event with less then 75 competitors.

good luck! (ive got enough top tens and a few placings to request an upgrade but to be honest Im having a good time mixing it up in the end and decided I wont even bother requesting an upgrade without a win)

While not 75, most of these races would have been closer to 50 riders in past years. People are boycotting them currently b/c of the kerfuffle between Tyler and USAC.

I just added it to my mental dictionary. Seems like a word I will be able to use on a relatively regular basis. Then again, what the kerfuffle do I know?

Not a kerfuffling thing.
How long do you think it will take for them to respond?

It took about a week for them to deny me the last time. I would like to have a response before the weekend though. The cat 4/5 race this weekend is 36 miles, the 1/2/3 race is 72 miles. However I'm pretty confident I will be able to get dropped in the first 36 miles.

When I was off the bike Saturday watching the race instead of competing, I spoke with a fellow competitor. He recently upgraded to a 3. The Dilworth crit was a cat2/3 race. He was dropped and pissed. I was proud of him though. Some guys would shy away from such a task, racing against 2s that have been in Pro/1/2 races all year. Sure they beat up on the 3s like narcs at a biker rally. They deserved to. It was their time to show the world what they are made of.
