I came, I saw...
..and they drope me.
Hung with the pack for 3 laps, until we hit the incline at the start/finish and I took an inside line to try to move around some slower traffic. That was my first mistake, the guy in front of me on that line had trouble downshifting and slowed to a crawl, by the time I got around there was a big gap and I was in too high of a gear. I hammered my ass off up the rest of this little incline, figuring I could close the gap on the downside as I had been so far. Not this time...the down side was also my recovery time on the early laps, but not this time, I was hammering away trying to catch up and everyone else had picked it up a notch too, so by the time I hit the next little incline, my fat ass was huffin and a puffin and my heart rate was going through the roof. I used the next little down side to try to recover for another big push...but no way, jose...I was done. I ended up getting lapped with about 2 to go, but on the bright side, I wasn't dead last...but I also got beat by a nice 63 yr old dude and the majority of the women. I did lap some of the juniors...look out Jens I'm a gunnin for you next!
Lessons learned:
1. I am too fat for this sport...but we knew that.
2. Botto was right in another thread...I coughed up some weird **** since quitting smoking.
3. Never brand new shoes you've only rode in once. Note 1
Note 1: When I got out of the saddle to try to power up and around the dude who got in my way, the excess of the inner side of the upper strap of my new Sidi shoe caught the crank arm, giving me a scare. I adjusted the shoe afterward, but will also need to adjust my cleat and my float.

Oh yeah,,,I crashed too...after the race, after cooling down for a few laps. Cheri was walking back to the lot, so I slowed down and rode up behind her...but she didn't know I was there, stopped suddenly and I had to hit the brakes hard and swerve...right into the curb, where I teetered for a bit trying to unclip, before falling down and going boom.

My worst sin...as I was doing a few cool down laps I got to ride and chat with CK for a bit, who was warming up for the Cat4s. He won last week....this week, not so much. I'm probably a Jonah...don't ride with me before your race!

I'm working my way up, from 3rd to last, currently at 14th to last in my last race, and ever upward, until I can start judging my finish based on the number of people that cross the line BEFORE me!

You get huge BF Points for even queueing up at a bicycle race cc. Keep trying pal. And lay off the Chocolate Chipcom Cookie Dough Ice Cream. Don't feel bad, we're all too fat for this sport. Pcad is (sniff, wipe away tear) proud of you you big fat Fred lug.

Just curious - did you feel that dropping the cigs helped?
Anyway, having been way to the back and/or lapped on several occasions, congrats.

Chip Dude! You made us proud. Kudos for having the intestinal fortitude to get your *ss out there and have a go at it. And you learned a few lessons for next time. Congrats!

A break formed with 6 riders IIRC, with Teammate Brad being one of them, so some of the teammates of the other break riders and I slowed the pace to let them get away and win a prime.
The break lasted the whole race, but came down to three guys, in which Teammate Brad came third because he started his sprint too early (at the bride before the hill).
But the worst part of the race is when I see Snakebite Matt goin up everyone's left side leading up to the sprint. I see this strong guy from Summit Freewheelers (who won solo two weeks ago and was in that break with me) get on his wheel. I grabbed third wheel again, and again swung to the left and went for the sprint with the finish line in sight.
Then I heard the last-lap bell ring, and I realized that I'd just spent my sprint and exposed my plan to everyone a lap early.
I ended up 10th, in the main field about a minute behind the break; no upgrade points, no prime cash (I was saving my sprint), no nothing.
