I've never tried to sip a bear and wouldn't recommend anyone else try it either. They can get pretty mean about stuff like that.

I like how you've never met me, and yet you know all about me.

I sincerely regret ever posting anything on these forums, I just dove into the fire and gave a bunch of strangers permission to make fun of me from their livingrooms. I dont know everything, but I do know you're wrong.

How about just a small amount of perspective? If really the biggest problem you face in your life is having a crappy coach, a crappy team, but a promising amount of athletic talent, consider how lucky you are.

I'm not trying to be patronizing, or belittle your feelings of frustration and anger. But if you take a second and consider all the things you are lucky enough to have (which I assume at the very least are good health and enough money to eat every day), it may cast a different light on the other stuff. A piece of advice that has always stuck with me is that no matter what happens, the one thing in life that you control is your attitude.

Take a break from the bike if it doesn't make you happy, but don't burn bridges or make it more difficult if you decide to come back. If you can, talk to a professional counselor. Sorry you didn't find empathy in an online message board, but really, what did you expect?

All the best.

And what about the other side of the coin? You know the snot-nosed 12 year old brats at the local crits running carbon wheelsets that cost more than my entire bike? I tell ya, it's enough to make this 38.5 yr old call it quits and join an emo band and/or restart my Joy Division addiction.

Heck, even juniors envy other juniors who have carbon bikes and zipp wheels.

I (we?) just think it's odd and kind of sad that a 17 year old is complaining about how many advantages he's been handed in his life.

1) Someone gave you a bike
2) Someone paid for your entry fees
3) Someone paid for your team kits
4) Someone paid for your coach
5) Someone more than likely bought you at least one more bike, probably 2

I'm an ass, I speak too quickly, and I often regret saying things. I've always wished I could have had more advantages as a kid, but I never, ever complained about the ones I did have.

I know, but when it sounds more bitter, politically incorrect, etc. when the envy comes from a bitter old bag like me.

Hi. I'm Psimet.

While my post was meant exactly as written - "hey...should've walked over and asked a couple of the guys if they wanted a decent meal for a change" - I can see how you might think it was an attack.

In the future I'll try to avoid any ambiguity in my posts by saying things like, "You know I think you may have just passed up a wonderful opportunity to make some new friends and hear some new stories if you had offered to take them out for dinner."

I apologize for any distress this may have caused you while reading this entralling thread.

BTW - nice to meet you!

Oh....and OP...Man the f up you ginormous man-girl. Take the panties off, put your whining back in your purse and Cat up. Then next time you pull on a jersey with any name on it other than your own take a moment and go over to that Cat4/5 racer with the bling and thank him....

Bingo.

You're burned out.

Take a break. Ride out this year with that team, don't stir the pot. Next season find a different club/coach.

Good luck with it, but don't quit. Take this advice from a guy with a lifelong history of quitting, and a lifelong series of regrets.

Chin up.

I'm washing my hands of this.

Take heed, the racing is not fair in the state of Kansas.

hey just a Q... when you guys were 17, were any of you decent racers? sounds to me like this guy is. just maybe you have very little idea what it`s like to be 16, 17, 18, good, and to come up against the jealousy of older guys who have far less talent than you.

just a thought.

No, when I was 17 I was worrying about which colleges I was going to get into, and which colleges might offer me a track scholarship. You know, an NCAA sport, with very little barrier to entry aside from a couple of pairs of shoes a year.

If you're 5 years down the road in Kansas, and half decent, I'd surely hope you're at least a 2. You can luck into half the 3->2 points needed for that. Not exactly a bike racing Mecca.

When I was 17,
I was more concerned about who'd be jugglin' me balls on Saturday night.
However, I would have been riding my bike to get there. But that's just me.

Hey bassplayinbiker,
Ever seen a grown man naked???

At 17 I had already decided that I would never amount to a big name bike racer due to Greg LeMond's book and his insistance that it was all about genetics.

....so I concentrated on getting laid. A lot.
