Back on the bike :)

Well.....I decided I had enough of running the other day, so I got back on the bike today. It felt good....but also, well....weird.

Cardio-wise, I'm actually in decent shape. Was pretty surprised about that. Power-wise, I'm ok....actually, seating climbing I felt more powerful, but endurance-wise I'm kinda lacking. I'm also 10 pounds heavier than last summer right now which sucks, but that should come off in a few months so I'm not real worried about it.

My cadence has gone down the crapper. I felt like I was "spinning", and maybe turning like 80 rpm. Ugh. Gotta work on that....guess my legs kind of got used to a running cadence.

Speed-wise, I'm doing around how I figured. Endurance is lacking a bit, but I expected that.

So, this looks to be another "build" year.....maybe do some races in late summer/early fall and see how that goes, as I don't feel like spending $60 for nothing. Get some century rides in maybe in July/August, etc.

Now.....just have to make sure I don't get another lump down there. Turns out it was a mass of scar tissue that built up into a knot right where my "sitbone" sits on the seat. Guess it was from riding. I have it on the other side, but not anywhere near as bad. Riding today, it felt like someone cut a piece of my ass out, and I had less padding there. The first half of the ride was kinda uncomfortable, but by the end I felt pretty normal.

Sooo.....we'll see. Time to start racking the miles up once again.

Glad to see you back in the saddle...again.

Ouch, glad things are healing.

"Lump of scar tissue"

Eewww. Suck. My knees are knobby and scarred enough. I can't imagine how much it would suck to have it on my arse. Out of morbid curiosity, how large was the mass?

Cleave 05-22-08 10:49 PM

Hi,

Glad to hear that the "mass" wasn't more serious than what you described. I used to run in the winter as a change of pace but I haven't done so in years. I can sympathize with having to get used to riding after running for a while.

Hope the rebuilding process goes well.

If you're concerned about spin I'd ride the rollers for a day or two. I find that after an enforced time off the bike that rollers gets me into the "right habits" re: spinning.

Scar tissue? Jeepers. I hope the other side doesn't go bad too. GL out there.

Going through a stressful period in my life. I'll find out in the next month or two if I'll ever discuss it or if I'll start looking for that memory eraser pen thing from MIB. They do have wifi in prison right? :) ok, ok, just kidding, it's not that bad.

Welcome back! Sounds like you'll get on track pretty quickly.

cdr, you have anyone that needs killing?

GuitarWizard 05-23-08 08:58 AM

Hmmm....the surgeon said it in centimeters, but I forget since I don't use metric. An inch and a half maybe? I don't think it was over 2 inches.

Welcome back GW. You have plenty of time to get ready for the Tour of the Hilltowns.

Homebrew01 05-23-08 09:57 AM

^^^ And there are some flat crits coming up in CT.

Friends help you move.

Good friends help you move bodies.

GuitarWizard 05-23-08 01:40 PM

Hilltowns might be stretching it a bit.....nearly 60 miles and really hilly; I don't think I have the base for that this year. I only have 1300 miles in my legs since January :(
