In Somerville?

The NJTransit area of (ny) penn station was so packed I didn't even try getting on the train w/ my bike. 15 minute line to use the ticket kiosks. I'm a wee bit upset to have missed it, particularly because my opportunities to cat up by mid-june are much worse now.

Assuming my assumptions about which race it was are correct -- what time did the 5s go?

brittle,

the cat5 went almost after 4pm. they split the 45/55 into 2 races due to the size of the field so it lengthened the day.

ridethecliche,

took the advice of riders i talked to in my club and lbs. stayed in the front, didnt worry about attacks when they happened, and waited for the final sprint. i was in 5th position when the sprint started and just poured it on. ended up being a photo finish. close one by i got him by a wheel pics...

me taking a pull

just after coming across the line at the end

Hey, today was my first race that wasn't a roller race [apparently Iowa is one of the only places that does this] and I got smashed: last place in the Melon City Criterium Cat 5 in Muscatine, Iowa. Just goes to show you can ride on your own for years and suck hard when it comes to competing. Got a loooong road ahead of me...
Basically, I've got cat 2 or 3 knowledge with Cat 6 ability.

Edit: Did I forget to mention that I've got 2,100 miles under my belt this year? Wow...

Great job! Looks like you beat one of my teamates (Liberty Cycle in blue/white kit) at the line.

I was at a bbq today in Kenilworth and when the topic turned briefly to cycling, someone mentioned that they had a friend who raced today in Somerset for the first time and won. Since you did the Cat5, they probably were talking about you! If so, small world.

P.S. The guy on your wheel in the 1st pic looks awfully beefy. You should've been on his wheel!

most of the ride i was somewhere in the top 5 positions. that pic was one of the times just after someone almost took me out in a turn. decided to jump to the front for a turn or two just to not take that chance again.

fly:yes/land:no, yes it is. switched the handlebars and put risers in to make it more road. way i ride it feels so much nicer than a traditional road bike.

timmhaan, thanks for saying im in good shape! i feel like a pig lately since being a little relaxed in my diet all year. this year ive ridden mostly by myself and then 2 tt in my club and 1 rr in it. before that any "racing" i did was in my club. tts and rr. oh and i have done a lot of charity rides.

after winning the tt and coming in second the following week my club director sent me a note saying "please consider getting a license". glad i took the advice

A good first race is a helpful indicator, but a poor one can mean very little. Always look on the bright side!
