I made the choice to hurt myself today

Let's see if I can bleed.
Last night I changed my mind and decided to race the Masters 30-39 race this morning. It's an 80+ mile race that I have no business being in.

Race report this afternoon...

How'd it go? I suspect better than my experience today in our masters road race state championships (short version: I raced for 4 miles then time trialed for the rest of the race).

nothing quite like being in a race when you know there is little hope of survival (every race for me :-P)

Hahaha our u23 field with 6 riders passed your 30+ field of about 40 riders which left 5 minutes before we did. You should be ashamed (Of course you passed us again shortly thereafter but still...) I am just annoyed that I was beaten in the two-up sprint so I just barely missed out on the sweet yellow State Champ jersey. Always next year...

So who was in the field, and who won?

Hurt real good. Should hurt less tomorrow though.

All the teams had a man in the break. So for a few laps we haggled around until men were spit out of the break then we ramped it up.

I feel your pain, In fact I felt it twice today (30km windy TT and Crit).

Twice a day racing makes me question my sanity. Oh well I improved my tan and got a few scraps of omnium points.

Tomorrow's road race is sure to confirm my insanity, as I know a bunch of people skipped the first 3 stages.... damn a-holes with fresh legs.

Nice going sub. How did you like the course? I don't remember any particularly steep sections around there. **He says hopefully**

You weren't racing against the other field so it makes absolutely no difference that you passed them. For all I know all it means is that your field had a bunch of idiots that went out too fast and an even larger bunch of idiots that chased them.

It does suck that you came so close to the jersey and missed, though.

You are probably right. I just get tired of the reading posts about the Cat N>M field passing the Cat M field like it is some big deal. It isn't. It ain't a time trial.

Well they had 6 guys in their field. We had dozens. We were also doing about nine hundred miles more than them as well. But it's all good. We were passed by several break aways and then passed them back once our break away was torn apart.

OHHH!!!! I almost forgot. The weirdest freaking crash happened right in front of me. We were all scratching our heads after the race. Some guy just veered from absolute left to absolute right in the field. Like he just said,"F it. I'm done. I need to be over there." And just turned his bike through the group to get to the grass. Took out like 3 - 4 guys.

Nothing steep. Freshly paved roads. Nice views of the lake. Nice spread out feed zone. No weird corners.

NC RR Championship.

Today's race = recovery ride.
I started making my way up to the front for the sprint. And so did everyone else. Guys were crossing the yellow like it didn't matter. Guys were in the freaking grass. Guys just sat up like they were done even before the sprint. And I was just taking it all in like I was on a casual Sunday bike ride.
