Peiffer Hill road race
Anyone doing this race this weekend? Looks like a nice route.

Nope, most of my team and the other guys I know are not racing any pro am races, Butterworth is a
pr!ck for cancelling most of the lancaster races and screwing people who prepaid for the whole season out of their money. I suspect there will be a small turnout like brownstown. If you do go, it is a great course with a pretty tough hill. Good luck! |

how much do you think a race should cost?

^maybe for an industrial park crit where you need no police escort and with no intersections that require police road guarding, dont have EMTs on course, require minimal USAC offical presence, and have a less than stellar prize list/or have most of the prize list donated to you. For an RR or downtown crit, the promoter would lose their shirt on a $20 entry fee.
I'm the treasurer for a small cycling club that promotes a road race annually in MABRA. Our entry fee is $30 pre-reg and $35 day of, and we typically see around 300 participants. After the costs of putting on a race (with all labor being volunteer efforts from the club members) I can assure you that we arent getting new team bikes, wheels, or groupsets on that fee. There is no one getting wealthy on race promotion. |

If you wouldn't mind be transparent--how much net profit do you make off each rider?

In my short 1 1/2 year racing career I never personally had a problem with Butterworth but many have. His races I did last year were very good and I'd love to do them again this year, but because of what happened I choose not to. If anyone chooses to race at his events, that's fine with me, to each their own. Thankfully many people have stepped up to offer some alternative to the Pro-Am races and I will support them Like I said, Peiffer Hill is a great course, have fun and let us know how you do. |
