Thats great. Was it a night race just for fun or is it too hot during the day? What kind of route?

prendrefeu 10-01-08 08:17 AM

Looks like night by the pictures (and I would imagine it's damn hot during the day...)

Quite an interesting helmet here, I've never seen this before:

Bob Dopolina 10-01-08 08:37 AM

Thanks for the link and the pics. I always like to see what is going on outside of Europe.

What kind of distance/time was this race? How are the categories organized? Was this an international event? Was it a UCI (or the UAE's cycling governing body) sanctioned? Who was the event sponsor? Is there any interest in bringing foreign teams to events there? Are there teams there who would like to race abroad?

As you can see I have many questions.:D

Arab Cyclists 10-01-08 02:16 PM

Dago,
yes its on night..because we are on Sep. on the holy month (Ramadan) and we fasting from sunrise to sunset..and also its too hot during day,so we start racing at 9:00 pm..

and the route is flat..

prendrefeu,

me also , i don't see like this helmet before:) ... he is on my team .. i will ask him (^^)

Bob Dopolina ,

What kind of distance/time was this race?

its 60 km

and the avarage speed was 42.7 km/h

How are the categories organized?

mix ( seniors & junior )

Was this an international event? Was it a UCI (or the UAE's cycling governing body) sanctioned?
no , just for UAE cycling federation

Who was the event sponsor?
in UAE we don't have much sponsors,, so the race was sponsored by UAE Cycling federation.

Is there any interest in bringing foreign teams to events there?
yes, we have two international races

1-Mohammad Bin Rashid International Cycling Cup - 1.2
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, January 26, 2008

2008

2- UAQ International Race - 2.2
United Arab Emirates, February 21-24, 2008

Are there teams there who would like to race abroad?
yes , for example Al Naser Club have good team and they race on BHr, KSA...

also Al Ahli Club

As you can see I have many questions.

mattm 10-01-08 02:46 PM

Okay guys. This could be a really cool thread. Can we keep the political remarks out of it? I have edited a few out already to try to keep this some what on topic of cycling and not political.

Thank you for that!

Bob Dopolina 10-01-08 06:13 PM

One of the teams here has done the Tour of Qatar (I know, not UAE). The Iranian team has come, a few times, to do the Tour de Taiwan as well. I don't think any teams from an Arab country have raced here, though. I don't think the heat would be a problem for your riders but the humidity, whew!

Personally I'm too old, tired, lazy and busy to race at that level anymore but perhaps we could help each other send teams to races in our respective countries? The big issue would be airfare. The races you posted are UCI sanctioned so getting the cycling federations involved in each country wouldn't be so difficult.

The interest would be highest for this race: UAQ International Race - 2.2 United Arab Emirates, February 21-24, 2008. The Tour de Taiwan coincides with the Taipei bike show (17-20 March). Those would be the most obvious choices butt hat doesn't leave much time to get things going.

If you are interested send me a PM.

Asalamu aleekum,
Kayf halek? Looks nice. Perhaps more english info for those of us who do not speak/read arabic would be nice. I can't remember if there is a need to obtain a visitors visa for the UAE or if a US passport is enough? Would be interesting to do this race and it could be a fun way to get me back to the middle east.

Arab Cyclists, thank you so much for stopping by here and letting us know about cycling in the UAE.

I too would think it would be great to have a women's race, although I can understand it might be a bit difficult.
