Short Course TT Question

Long background story short....I need to do really well this weekend during the TT that is a part of a series/stage race/omnium that I am doing in order to crak the top 10 by the end .

It's an uber short course - about 9.25 miles by my measurement. It has 2 turnarounds. From what I have plotted out it seem really flat, but visual reports say there is some rolling terrain (keep in mind this is Illinois cornfields so "rolling" is a subjective term).

I have a set of Zipp 404s that were just dropped off that I get to borrow for TTs. I know there is a shop or two in the area that will rent full disks. My team's shop does not have anything. One of the shops that does is basically a mortal enemy of my team's owner....although he would never admit to that.

Last year 24.8mph took 1st in my cat. I have done mid 23 for 50k and 22 for my last 40k in a total downpour with a turnaround and box section rims on similar terrain. I have a TT helmet, bars, shoe covers, etc.

So....is it worth it to try to rent a disk for the rear (don't really care baout the $$ as long as it's reasonable so don't use that as a factor) for such a short TT over the 404 that I will already be able to use?

Yes, I suck and it doesn't matter what I use, but humor me...it's this or do the work I have been neglecting...

You have stated that you want to do well/win. Use every advantage you can.

That was kind of my thinking....just didn't really know what advantage a disk will make over a 404 on such a short course...

The shorter the course... the higher the average speed... the more it will help.

Disk. Short course the time gaps will be tight. Ask me about losing a P1/2 TT this year by 2 seconds.

If the rental is cheep I'd do it. If it's over $40, I'd stick with the Zipps.

Turns out the shop doesn't have disks....nothing better than the 404s to rent. Colorchange I blame you for not getting your new disk in and gluing up a tubular in time to let me borrow it...

Are covers still USCF legal? I thought there was something about banning them. Or maybe they talked about it and didn't follow through?

$90 (+overnight shipping) is steeper than I wanted to go. So...cover is out. Think I'll stick with the 404 unless someone local can come up with a disk that wants to be ridden...

Aren't you an engineer? Fabricate something! I think I've seen you referred to as Batman somewhere...

Or go buy some 808s somewhere. Call it an early Christmas / Kwanza / Holiday of your choice present.

The order I would spend my money, if just starting out:
-Aero helmet
-Aerobars
-TT specific frame/bike
-Wind tunnel testing
-powermeter!
-misc- shoe covers, skinsuit, etc
-Aero wheels/disc (go deep)
From Page TWO of the article on equipment.... it seems he rates wheels way down the list, probably based on cost though. But do you have anything else you can gain in that list?

I was looking at that during a meeting today - seriously I suck.

-Aero helmet <--got it
-Aerobars <--got it
-TT specific frame/bike <--nope...using my road rig with flipped seatpost and full TT cockpit
-Wind tunnel testing <--- - no
-powermeter! <--this winter as a Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary gift to myself using wheel building money, secret paypal funds, a left over $$ gift card from last Christmas and some cash socked away in the psimet MYOB slush fund weekly - so no and I wouldn't have any decent numbers to use anyway...
-misc- shoe covers, skinsuit, etc<--Have shoe covers...team does not have skinsuits that I am aware of.
-Aero wheels/disc (go deep)<--I have the 404s in house and on the rig....

so nothing else really to work with.... That's OK I'll just have to man up and kick ass the old fashioned way....PEDs....

I'm Batman....

...speaking of which - total road setup teardown to bare frame (left calipers and BB cups on - that's it) and rebuild into TT configuration: 1:30. I told you. I'm Batman.

Point taken. Somehow I think my marital status is related to the fact that my time trial bike is my road bike with a $40 forte aerobar and a firm belief unconfirmed by data that I really am faster with it.

Good luck in the TT.
