Finally some form

My last weekend of the season, and I finally was in decent shape with some form. Bartow Crit on Saturday, and Polk County RR on Sunday.

Felt good both days. Rode up front both races, and felt good about my chances. Bridged to a break in the RR that ended up not sticking. (and later missed the break that did stick.) Took a solo flier in the crit, that also didn't stick.

Ended up with not great results, mostly due to poor tactics at the end of each race.

8th in the RR, 9th in the Crit.

Now that I have some form, I'd like a couple more shots to play the tactics differently. But my season's over. Oh well.

Umm, there are two more races this weekend in Ocala.

BTW, what field did you play in?

Good show nonetheless. Carry that momentum to the next season. Remember what you did right and what you did wrong. Use it as fuel for the next time.

I missed a break at the SC RR Championship. I went too hard and cracked myself. I will try to never, ever, ever, ever, ever let that happen again. I could have easily got on the podium.

Cat 4.

I'm going to be out of town next week unfortunately.

daytonian 10-06-08 05:59 AM

remember the training you did to duplicate that form in spring

botto 10-06-08 06:01 AM

just as i was hitting peak form for the season, i had to take 6 weeks off the bike.

still haven't gotten back on track, and i still have another race to go.

c'est la vie.

Since when was bike racing about "form".
I'm pretty sure it's about the ol' woulda-coulda-shoulda's.
8th and 9th are fantastic by most standards.
Enjoy...

True. However, this was the first time in awhile that I was fast enough to really be in the mix and even thinking about coulda woulda shoulda, as opposed to hanging on the back for dear life.

Any chance the Everest Challenge made the flattish FL races seem easier?

Congrats nonetheless.

after a week of climbing in the alps, i found my first race back in clogland to be particularly difficult.

botto,

you seem, uh, different. More vocal and less abrasive. Why for?

Kind of like taking good crit form to the mountains for a few days.
It's like there is a bungee cord pulling you backwards on that first day.
Same effects on the GT riders when going from the rolling-flats to the first big mountains.

The training for EC definitely helped my FTP. I was worried I wouldn't have the acceleration and recovery for a crit. 2 weeks of doing speed intervals. (30 seconds on 30 seconds off) seemed to help.

Priorities!

And just to make you feel bad:

Saturday's course is a pretty flat course (much flatter than the Germantown Road road course that they have used recently for the Ocala series and State Champs) and narrow with a double yellow for quite a bit. A "larger" fellow on form with a lot of experience will do well on this course. Especially if the conditions remain windy like they have been the last couple of days.

Are you sure that you have to go out of town?;)
