POLL: RR Sat Crit Sun or vice versa

Our team will be hosting a race this spring, and I'd like everyone's opinion.

We will have a TT Saturday morning. Should we have the crit after the TT Saturday afternoon with the RR on Sunday morning, or the other way around. RR after the TT Saturday and crit Sunday morning.

I leave it to you...

I'd put the crit on Saturday, for a couple of reasons.

1) presumably the Crit will be shorter than the RR, so it makes more sense to double up the TT with the Crit, than with the RR;

2) at least around here RR's draw better than crits, so by putting the RR on Sunday, you have a better chance of people staying over to race on Sunday, than if you put the Crit on Sunday.

do whichever is logistically easiest for your volunteer staff to support and organize.

it really wont matter to racers, they'll be there unless the event is in August/Sept, that's when #s seem to diminish, in my experience.

my preference is to have RR on sat in the a.m., then TT on sun. in the a.m., crit in afternoon. Doesnt sound like that's an option, as you've presented scenarios with 2 races on sat and one on sun. So, what I'd prefer is to do TT and Crit on Sat and RR on sunday.

agree. but put the crit on in the morning and the TT on in the afternoon. the idea behind a TT is to "leave it all on the course" thus, you might be wrecked the rest of the day.

i think if you did the TT first, you'd have a lot of people showing up for only one or the other. if you put the crit first, you'd have most people doing both.

It is easier to run a RR and TT on the same day because you can use the same roads.

Remove the TT and everything comes together. As a bonus, you're team won't be spread out trying to handle three different events.

Keep the RR and TT together on Sat and put the Crit Sunday morning.
Are you guys co-hosting the race with Auburn? I don't see you on the schedule.

Road Race on Saturday in the am, TT on Sunday in the Am, followed by a night crit.

Doing a TT and a RR on the same day would be too much for most people, especially if it's an omnium and there are people trying to win everything. The crit would be less mileage and a little less stressful than the RR, so I think it'd be well coupled on the same day of the TT.

How long would each race be?
I'd be imagining a 60 mile race for the RR, 30 for the crit, and a 40k for the TT?

The problem with a night crit is that I need to get back to school the next day and night crits make that really tough to do.

is it a stage race or just 3 individual races?

do the crit on sat, it will be much easier. if you have enough officials while some groups are doing the tt other groups can be doing the crit and vice versa. so some would race the tt in the morn and the crit in the afternoon while the other half will race the crit in the morn and the tt in the afternoon. that's the way they do one of our local stage races

I'd go three TT's.... Almost every weekend here is a 3 race weekend (with a few exceptions). Pretty much all of them are Saturday AM RR, afternoon TT, Sunday Crit. We did one with the TT first which I really prefer.

All that being said, in one of the GA Cup races I did last year it was Sat morning TT, afternoon crit, and Sunday road race. To me this makes the most sense, but the field was really tired for the RR.

USF dropped and we picked it up I believe. The problem with doing a race sunday night is that the teams are travelling so far, we try to be done by Sunday afternoon to leave the rest of the time for travel. Could be anywhere from a 3-12 hour drive. Have to be considerate for the other teams.

I'd like to make it an omnium and hand out little medals or something for each race and a tshirt for the overall.

I like the idea about a USCF crit in the afternoon following the collegiate races. Good idea!

1+ The shorter crit should be doubled up with the TT, with the longer RR the next day.

Another thought... I don't know if this is a stage race or an omnium, but if it's a stage race, then there is not much time to be gained in the crit and you won't get much competition if it's on Sunday and everyone is tired from the RR and it's just kind of a formality. (EDIT: I obviously didn't read post 16)

Last thought... In the lower cats, many people are probably reconfiguring their road bikes for the TT, which means that the shorter crit should be on Saturday so they can have more time to recover from the TT effort and reconfigure their bike for mass start use.
