The hours we put into training I mean. My team mate Gary's preposterous training regimen aside, yesterday I rode my bicycle outdoors for about 3.5 hours, then I hit the gym for a weight workout in the evening, about 90 minutes. That's FIVE HOURS of training. I am not a world class athlete, I am a 51 year old peloton dog hack racer.
I wonder how many beer league softball players do that?

I spent hours doing bakery lifts today...being a world-class glutton takes dedication ya know.

out walking the earth
Actually, if I wasn't trying to go light on the volume this weekend, and were able to ride outside during the week this wouldn't really be that bad. It would really only be <whisper> 4 1/4 hours a day </whisper> with one day off!

Cause those guys train 6-7 hours a day, have way more talent, aren't in their 40s, and take a **** lot of drugs?

I don't have enough time to train 5 hours every day, and all the time I spend at work lifting an 8 oz. baton is adding tons of dead weight to my biceps.

It's all relative. When it's your job (or your passion), that kind of time and dedication is expected. I, like others (I'm sure), have other things going on in life and have not decided to put that much time down.
If I have time and am willing to do a six hour ride, then I do it. If I don't, then I won't. The great thing is that I don't need to. I race for fun, and use the training more for my overall fitness.

I like riding as much as I can. I get my best ideas and brainstorms while riding. Even on the rollers where I have fewer distractions.

Well its all relative. Most of us enjoy training/riding. There are parts you suffer but for the most part its better than watching reruns of Seinfeld. Its not too hard doing what you love. What is hard for me is doing all the little things I should do such as scissor kicks or stretching.
What is easy is planning too much and then breaking down with injury. I tend to get in 'Rocky' mode with my training and it doesn't go well. I think many other people fall in this trap as well.
