Powertap/WKO questions

- Powertap -
Menu 2 - Average watts setting, from the manual:
"Press [SELECT] to toggle through (1, 2, 3, 5 10, 30) rate of display values in seconds for watts. Press [MODE] to save."

I've reset mine from 1 all the way through 30 and notice absolutely no difference. The display value seems to update every second no matter what I set the value to. It didn't appear to smooth the average display either. What is this setting for?

- WKO+ -
The 'Clear Device' button is never enabled. Does it work for anyone else? The advice I got from their forums "just clear it by holding both buttons yada yada yada". Yeah..there's more than one way to do most things but I want my 'Clear Device' button - dammit.

There is a setting for recording watts and one for displaying watts. IMO, always keep the recording at 1 second. The display is personal, but I think I kept mine at 3-5 seconds. I thought it was menu 2 also, so not sure what's going on. Are you pessing mode to save the changes? I was thinking the older ones used to say "do it" to ensure you saved correctly.

WKO+ clear device always worked fine for me, but I still just manually cleared it anyway.

It appears to me that when you set the display to avergae 5 seconds, etc....it still updates the display every second or so, but it is showing numbers that were averaged over the sample rate you picked.

In other words let me draw a picture of 5 second averaging:

Sample:1--2--3--4--5--6--7--8--9--0--11--12--13--14--15--16
Display:------------1-5--2-6--3-7--

My WKO's never been able to clear the head unit either. I got a software upgrade recently, I should try it and see if it works now.
