Look at any of the EAI offerings. The Bareknuckle (steel) or Brassknuckle (alloy) are both capable track rigs. Slap a Reynolds Ouzo Track on there, if you want a carbon fork. You might look at the Bianchi Pista Concept, Javelin Vigorelli, or the Felt or Jamis mentioned above.

Depending on your track, you might look at the KS or CS as well. I would recommend against using the Pistas in any flavor, unless you have deep pockets. There were a couple guys running those last year at Alpenrose that got only 7 or 8 days of racing out of them.

I forgot to mention them, but IRO makes a nice bike. I may or may not have the Angus, made with Reynolds 653, paired with a Alpha Q carbon fork.
It's a very nice bike. Coupled with a stiff bar/stem and crank, you'll have a pretty ncie bike.

Hi,

I've got about 1,600 miles on a 2006 Bianchi Pista Concept and I like it pretty well. One thing that is kind of weird for me is that I can barely ride it without hands (straight line only) but it handles fine on the banking.

I raced an S-works Langster on concrete and wood (encino, ADT, San Diego, San Jose) for 2 years and it's fine. My new Giant CF frame is even stiffer. Material really doesn't affect how rough a bike feels so much as people claim. My old Pinarello steel frame is probably stiffer than the Langster, but weighs a ton so it's hard to throw around underneath you.

As for tires: which track? Over at FGF people haven't been saying nice things about the conti podiums. If you want what people are taught at ADT about equipment selection, click here: https://lavelodrome.org/Training/AccelClassSummary.htm. There's a lot of equipment that will work just fine on most tracks, and it really depends a lot on how you intend to ride.

As for why the track forum is dead: everyone who actually rides the track and hangs out online is over at fixedgearfever. I read the track forum regularly and comment sometimes, but yeah, it's pretty dead.

I was worried about that on the Felt (my GF has one) but they've held up fine. They also seem to hold up well on the rental bikes on ADT. It may depend on what kind of treatment the Al gets at the factory. And if you're actually racing it you'll probably destroy the frame before the dropouts are chewed up, anyway...

Is Ken Delo riding for you guys next year?
Doesn't matter how 'big' your team is, s long as the two of you are close to the same size. It's very bad to have a 140 pounder paired with a guy who weighs 180. The little guy always loses in that scenario.

It depends more on skill level of the riders than mass difference. I've ridden with people where there was a 50 lb difference (me at 180 and a 130 lb woman) and if you're doing it right it's not much different than with riders about the same mass. I watched a team on saturday of a ~190-200 lb guy and ~130 lb woman and they didn't have any problems due to the size difference (they're both pretty high level riders). The bigger problem was that they were racing against pros and kids who had been riding 6-days in europe recently.

And I don't think 280 would be the lightest madison team ever. I suspect Pearce and Carney probably added up to about that when they were racing together, and if you look at the kids around here (most of them aren't juniors anymore) they probably add up to that or less.

Good call. I think he's pegged me as a RR/Pursuit guy.
