Armstrong Forced To Scrap Plans For Independent Drug-Testing Program

haven't seen this on the cycling sites yet

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/cycli...-program_N.htm

Why not just release the power info since Lamemond says that tells you everything you need to know?

Strange. So basically it was all a big PR stunt?

What does that have to do with releasing the data?

Maybe Catlin 'owns' the data and he won't release it with no agreement in place. Seems strange he'd do the work w/o some preliminary contract though.

You would think Armstrongs "people" would release more information on this if that was the case. Considering all the sceptical folks out there. As it is this reads like a Jay Leno joke (and probably will be one tonight).

Doesn't Astana already have a testing program in place for the team? If so, it seems like a personal testing program for Armstrong would be redundant.

exactly, plus astana's.. I'd say he is tested enough without his own program as well.

[Rumormongering]Lance has discovered there is no way he can be competitive without pharm-team help, and so he decides to scrap the idea and show up strong instead at the TdC[/Rumormongering]

I respect the guy as an athlete, but how difficult are the logistics really? Get a test, and put up a frickin' PDF of the results. The guy is the "most tested athlete on the planet" right? So how tough can it be to have some blood drawn every so often and post the results. Garmin seems to manage (I believe) as well as posting power data with Saris. Basso posts his SRM files. Lance? *tumbleweeds*

sorry, I am just talking out of my butt, but this is disappointing.

Redundancy was the point. He wanted to prove that he was going above and beyond the normal testing methods. I think he had a press conference outlining the whole thing.

This news is quite strange, indeed, and does nothing to help his reputation.

The assumed way Armstrong gets jacked is via blood doping before the start then taking the extra blood out before he goes to bed. Current testing methods wont catch him as post race all he has to say is "im dehydrated and will have an elevated crit". He will come back 2 hours later and poof his crit is back down... *hes already pulled that stunt once*

Test his crit 15 minutes before each stage. If that turns up clean than ill back him 100%. He should be clean for ToC as its not needed (for him). Giro or TdF now thats a different story.

to me the telling quote was that "people could mis-interpret the data"

well duh, genius, if you've been clean all this time, then everyone who's accused you has been mis interpreting data. what makes you think this will change?

Well.. my hematocrit is higher than his. I must be doping - or maybe just a dope... the jury is out.
