Schedule is set: Now, what to do with it?

Kind of an odd situation:

Wife just took a new job working nights for the next 7 weeks. I have a hilly 60 mi round trip commute that I do on Monday and Friday by bike (this time of year). Tuesday through Thursday I drive into work, but then sometime after getting home I drive up to her work with the bike in the car, and ride the 10 mostly flat miles home, leaving the car for her to drive home.

Once the 7 weeks are up she'll be back on a daytime schedule and I'll be on 3 commutes during the week and 1 long ride on the weekend (my usual routine), but for now I'm thinking weekdays are going to be my only riding time, with a trip to the gym for some core work on Sat/Sun.

The question: What can I do to maximize the training effectiveness of the 3 short rides in a row, without burning myself out for the RT commutes?

I do have the option of making them a little longer if I choose, but they're always going to be urban rides (lots of lights and stops and starts). My commute has lots of long steady grades and wide open roads with no stops for 20-30 minutes at a stretch.
