Procrit WR and Jonathan's race report after the race was mostly about you...nice f'n job out there man.

Well my race can be summed up in on word. FAIL. I did waaaay too much work and of course paid for it in the last 1k. Finished outside the points which all that really matters.

Sorry to hear you missed the points, blame it on the cold. What kind of work? Getting into breaks? Chasing breaks?

I raced. Felt pretty good. (other than the rain) Got in a couple of very short lived breaks.

Watched 3/4ths of the field roll by me a couple hundred meters from the line.

Both. I'm pretty disgusted with myself right now.

First race (ever). First win (ever). Gonna try not to let it get to my head too much. although I probably would not have made it without the chase group

Nope. Using the backups; a pair of $99 Shimano Tri shoes (cheapest shoe the LBS had that fit me)

For a short ride at least, I don't notice a whole lot of difference.

Poor College Kids road race. Finished 18th of around 60. This was a low priority race, just training through it, so it was cool to do ok. There was a break that was nearly caught at the line but just finished ahead of the field sprint. Local shop owner/ex-olympian took the field sprint by a good margin. I was in good position a few wheels back and advancing on the right side at 41mph (and accelerating) when some yahoo came off the front on the left side and swerved across the road in front of us and basically killed all the momentum and any chance I had. I could have salvaged a few more places but I didn't see the point.

I was actually more worried about the wheels, since I actually own those...the frame? Well, that's all a part of "testing"

Right now, my hip and left "cheek" are pretty sore

3 more points till the cat 2's. Might just get them tomorrow. =)

No worries! You'll get it. Having intentions is good. I wasn't in your race, so, I might be out of line here, but, patience and discipline can be key. Also, it's Perty darn early in the season. Tomorrow's another day, smoke 'em!!

My race today was hard. Namely because of El Diablo Rojo. I tried to bridge to a break - didnt work, tried again - didnt work. the rest of my day was very very painful. I thought I had good position going into the last 1k... but it didn't pan out at all.

Thought I saw you there. I raced in the 5A group. About 3 minutes before the start I double flatted. Nice. I don't have extra wheels but a teeammate lent me his. However, due to the delay we had really bad starting position. We started the race and the first 17 miles were very relaxed. The first descent was squirrely and the guy in front of me locked his rear wheel. I was ready to go down but he got it under control thankfully. At the turn around point all hell broke loose and the peloton took off. Since we were in the back (thanks to my earlier flats) we along with a few others got dropped. Tried several times to bridge the gap but to no avail. So, we chilled, chatted, and enjoyed the 65 and sunny ride through the countryside haha. Ended up 38/44.

Things I learned.

Double flatting sucks
Poor starting position sucks
Centerline rule sucks
Getting dropped sucks
Racing in the countryside when it's 65 and sunny is nice

Starting position is probably the single most important thing in that race. I saw the aftermath of the crash, not pretty.

Yeah the crash was from the 5B group. That course offers just about no opportunity to safely pass without breaking the centerline rule. I had a good time though and the weather was brilliant today.

Sorry about the issues Rob. Are you signed up for BLVD? That should be good. I have my best friend pegged for the III win although he is up against some good riders. I am really bummed reading race results already. With any luck my knees will be better and I will be racing by the end of June. We will see. I am still suffering.

I heard about your issue. Sucks man. I'm at Boulevard and Red Trolley next weekend. I'll be at Callville too. Will you be there hanging out at all? Let me know.

Cheers

How on earth is starting position a factor when the first 17 miles are relaxed?

Because it's a narrow road, nearly impossible to move around, and when you hit the turnaround (at mile 17) everyone sprints away and if you aren't near the front, you get left behind. The 5s and 4s always shatter at the turnaround. The 3s were better, more people are strong enough to catch back on.

The other issue is that it's mostly downhill to the turnaround so the speeds are really high even though the effort is low. After the turnaround it's all uphill, further shattering the field.
