Brooksville Crit P12 - Rode at the from at the beginning and after prob 6 minutes rolled a 3 man break - Florida Velo, Boom Devo, and me. We stayed away and almost lapped the field but chose not to. With 300m to go on the second to the last lap, I attacked right at the top of the cobbled hill after letting the FL Velo guy pull the whole hill. Got a gap and the Boom kid followed me. I tried everything to get him to pull through including coasting but nothing would make him pull through. The FL Velo guy was coming back and I had no choice but to pull up the hill. Of course lost the sprint and got 2nd but sill super excited about a great result.

Sunday RR - 4 laps of a 17 mile loop. I pushed the pace from the gun and but shortly was back in the field. I was sitting in the field right at the bottom of Ice Cream Hill when I bumped wheels with the guy in front of me and went down. Wasn't on the ground for more than 2 seconds though. I sprinted up the hill to the front of the field where I immediately jumped on a 3 man chase group (going after a 8 man break). We made it up to the break and started working hard. We had 12 guys and eventually got up to a 5 minute gap. On the final lap, the attacks started coming. I tried to go with one of the first ones but was hurting quite a bit so decided to site in until the ones that really mattered happened. On one of the final steep hills about 5 miles from the finish is where the big split happened and we got it down to 7. Then on the final steep hill about 2.5 miles from the finish I followed an attack and then countered. I thought we'd gotten it down to 4 but no one wanted to work and the group came back together to 7. I sat in until the sprint where I was able to sprint for 4th.
Great weekend and looking forward to the State Championship RR next weekend!

off season upgrade crits
won the 4A crit in the sprint
clipped my pedal through the last corner before the sprint in the 4B race and slid out but nothing too bad, just some road rash and a ruined kit. broke my derailleur hanger too but I have some spares, bike is in pretty good condition but got a dent in my top tube but it's aluminum so whatever, didn't even tear my new bartape

ha i went and entered a race in december!
after steamboat stage race over labor day i wasnt plannin to pin on a number till spring. but then at the last minute i decided to throw in and race our local underground single speed open race. its an annual race where you meet in a park and get the map for the course when you show up. no categories, just a guy pumping a tube till it explodes and thats the starting gun. commence suffering.
anyway thats never been my scene but a bunch of new guys on my team are organizers and the money goes to a womens racing program in town, and most of all, the forecast called for a high of 18 with 20mph winds. yes please.
i dont have a SS bike so i had to use k-tape to tape my sram shift paddles to the brake levers. settled on 50x17 with gatorskin 25s. i'd heard it was mostly gravel but nothing too hairy or steep.
about around 50 folks rolled out, from a NRC cat1 type to mountain bike racers to beardy hipster bike folks and all points in between. really nice vibe. not attitude or posturing, cinnamon rolls and coffee at registration, good SAG support and better course marking (spray paint) than on a few USAC races ive done.
a cat 1 friend whos a crit monster blew it up pretty early on. dropped it down to 6-8 guys and just started attacking us over and over. my diesel runs all winter but not my nitro, so i knew i'd be in trouble if i tried to stick to him and match all of his attacks so i figured my best bet was to sit back a ways and keep a steady pace and watch the carnage.
i sat about 50 yards behind him and his group for almost an hour. till last years winner caught me from behind and we started working together a little in the wind. one by one cat1 dropped his whole group and i figured if we were gonna close the gap it had to be now, but it wasnt to be. he was on some next level power that day and we lost sight of him over some rollers and never saw him again.
last years winner and i duked it out for the second half, back and forth, until i made the final turn onto a slightly downhill tail windy pavement stretch of about 5 miles. i hit the pavement with a small gap and knew that since hes also an accomplished track sprinter, if i was within sight of him at the line, i was done, so i had to build my gap and hold it. not an easy thing to do with a 50x17 into a downhill tailwind on smooth pavement. lemme tell ya. but i spun as fast as i could, legs smoldering, eyes crossed, focusing all of my remaining mental energy on keeping my pedals turning over as fast as possible until i crested the small bridge at 200 meters out and looked back and saw him almost a minute behind me. got to sit up and enjoy it and not sprint. held on to second.
just a low key underground race in december, but good competition, and a great course, and i've been lookin for a singlecross bike ever since. and planning to try to put on more of these races. tons of fun. and my deep winter gear (endura extreme tights, showers pass softshell trainer, lobster bibs, smartwool scarf, and northwave arctic celsius boots) all stood up to some intense cold. i didnt notice the temp at all.

OK folks, to keep the thread size down we're going to go year by year on this. This is closed for business.
