Just sayin'. Happened to me in September in Prospect (in the rain) and 8 days ago in Central Park.

I sense a pattern here.

Could be time for a couple of 4/5 and 45+ races just to reinforce my crumbling ego. Of course if I get dropped in those I'm in big friggin trouble. But I don't think that would happen. Me and the other refugees from the 35+ race were sitting on the back of that 4/5 field (or whatever race it was) for the last 15 miles in CP flickin major buggers.

You know, on second thought, this might not be my big problem.

The last CP race I did seriously felt like the Cervelo Test Team was laying down the law at the front of that field. Ooofaaa.

Dude,

You're over 50 (like me). Don't they have 50+ races in NY? I do 50+ and 40+ races in SoCal and I can actually race in the 50+ races. 40+ is for training (i.e. not getting shelled). 45+ can be kind of nasty too, but I've actually taken fliers in some of those races with Thurlow and the rest of the good guys chuckling. 35+ 1/2/3 means getting dropped (for me).

I did a 35+ 3/4 race in January and I hated it. I didn't get dropped but I barely missed a 10+ rider pileup and the rest of the race was shoulder-to-shoulder across the road.

I actually do better in a straight Cat 3 race but it really makes me feel old racing with guys less than half my age.

I do those races because I'm sponsoring a team of 35+ guys and I like racing with them, I love racing in the city, really like the guys on the team, etc. Also, finding 45+ races is harder. But I'll be going to more of those. There's a Tuesday nighter 45+ here, and one on Sat. AM in Newark. Plus just hanging in the field in the 35+ (which I manage to do in 90% of the races) is an amazing workout for me. Makes me faster. I'll try to mix it up with more 4/5 racing and 45+ where I'm potentially competitive. Me racing with the 35+ is essentially a workout, those guys are over my friggin head for sure.

I would prefer 45+ because those fields are far safer and more experienced.

Come to Bethel. 40+. One of your guys (Juan) is doing well in the P123s. You can claim you came to make sure he had proper sponsor support or something. Last week it was smaller, maybe 60 riders, and you don't have to get up too early (but you'll lose more of the day).

I got dropped at Prospect (before the top of the hill on the second lap) the last time I raced there, and I was in 35+. Hated it.

gstein you're not invited unless you do the 40+ or P123s I'm actually doing well so please don't show up and school the field in the 3-4s.

lol too funny. school away.

trick is to place in races that don't appear in USAC standings, those in NJ, NY. CT is not a good place to place.

It's ok. Some of those other guys should upgrade too.... In 10 cat 3 races I won 40% of them and placed in the top five (mostly podiums) in the rest. it's fair.

'Podiums'. What 'Podiums'? You stand around, argue with the occasional challenge, collect your $100 and go back to the car. At least you go back to the car with the $100. I'm trying to imagine what the 'Podium Girls' might look like in Prospect Park, but it's too frightening.

Hey Gary, how much did you win racing your bike last year? Did they send you a 1099? Is that declarable income? Can you write off your bike gear and travel expenses against that?

In CT they actually pull out a podium. It's a civilized state. You just need to get out of the parks. Christ, I sound like a NY velocity shill.

I didn't really keep track, though I knew on a week to week basis I won more than my entry fees more often than not (one of the nots was that damn blueberry crit at rutgers where I won a ****ing banana bread).

Hey, at least you still have an M35+ category where you get you some winnins. I'm going to be ecstatic if I can just pull off a top-10 sometime in the rest of this season.

Just answer the questions about the income and expenses or I'm blowing the IRS Whistle on you. I hear they have an agent who audits Cat 1/2 bike racers for undeclared racing income. He is a forensic accountant, he is a massive Fred, and he loves impaling bike racers on the IRS Pitard.

Pretty impressive g. What's it like to be the "Man to Beat". No wonder Pcad loves to hate you or is that hates to love you.
