Rest Week
For those that subscribe to incorporating a rest week in your program, what does your rest week look like?
I plan on doing 3-4 low intensity 1 hour rides in. Also would like the insight of the master's (40+) and their rest/recovery plan. |
My rest weeks are 12 hours (900 hour schedule).. Dead east, though in season I still have to race.

Planned rest weeks do not work for everyone.
What are you doing that is so intense that you need a whole week of rest? Sleep for two days then get back on it. |

Some of my "on" weeks sound like a rest week. 1 hour Wed. 1/2 hour Sat. Race Sun. Option: skip the Wed ride. Second option - halve the Sat ride.
There's something to be said for rest. My best race at the CT Crit Championships happened after 9 days off, and 10 days off before that single day of riding. To do the math, I rode 1 day out of the prior 20 days before the race, and it was a mid summer race. Okay, I rode rollers for about 15 minutes the day before, but that was it. I bridged to a break, couldn't help it but I could hang on, came back to the field, and then did a good sprint for second. I should point out that I do train, but usually not during Bethel, and not right after it. In the 3 months before Bethel I try and ride a bit (up to 150 hours one year, but usually more like 50, and this year something less than that), and during the summer, I'm doing (I hope) a 1 hour race Tues (+1 warmup while I watch the other race), 2 hours of on/off at the track on Wed, and two non-racing group rides on Mon and Fri, 2 hours each. Plus an hour race Sunday and maybe an hour on Sat. 10 hours. That would be nice. cdr |
CDR - you realize if you stopped posting "novels", you'd have time train. But then again, I'm sure all the Conneticut cat'3 are fine with you just typing about the sport.

Wait, I've eaten dinner while on the trainer. So scratch that one. My bigger problem is trying to find time to write for the blog. BF gets a semblance of priority somehow. cdr |
