Seriously. She was changing in her car; we had stopped on our cross country run to get some breakfast. I did a double take. It was real. And very nice. I told my wife I had a new favorite place to eat and why. She cracked up.

That, my friends, is an awesome spouse.

Check the weather/pollen alerts for your area. That may tell you something.

I love those Burt Reynolds movies from the 70's where he's runnin' shine.

Dear friend of mine has a 9 (soon to be 10) year old daughter who I adore. I've been to every one of her birthday parties, plus numerous weekend visits and Disneyland jaunts together. Now in 5th grade, she's growing up so damn fast. I haven't seen her since early summer, and with her 10th B-day coming up, I was a bit concerned she may have changed a lot in this time. I talked with her mother today and here was the report: " No, she's still a tomboy and doesn't care a lick about hygiene." Whew.

That's surprising for a championship event. They had a corral and a testing rig at Cascade. No use tempting fate.

Our daughter started daycare 2 weeks ago after my wife spent 6 months searching for the right place. Last night the owner called us and told us she is closing. Today. Done. No more daycare. Hoping my 3 year old lab is up for looking after my 3 month old baby.

Oh crap, that sucks. Good luck turning it around. Hopefully #2 on your wife's list is available.

My mother worked at a daycare for our church. They recently closed the doors. Both my mother and father are out of work.

Thanks. Numbers 2 and 3 no longer have spaces. So it's back to square one.

Ugh. That really sucks. We may be in the same situation in a couple months as our daycare is dropping its partnership with the Y. If they can't find a partner, it may be done.

Have you considered a nanny or nanny share until you find another place? It is more expensive, but it may be an option in the short term.

Oh, you gotta pull some of these down for your daughter. Beautifully illustrated. Very few words, but funny stories through imagery, and the attention to detail is impressive.

I feel blessed that we are able to have my wife at home rather than out in the workforce. The stresses and schedules are extremely challenging, especially before school-age. Hopefully you have a network to help you get through the transition. Maybe some alternation of sick days with other parents from the daycare?

Thanks. Yes - we're considering nanny-shares, but budget-wise it would have to be short-term.
Hope you're situation turns out well.

Found a decent sample from Good Dog, Carl. The mom always leaves the baby with the dog. They have an adventure, and get everything back to normal by the last page.
