Don't let that experience affect how you handle this one. If you want to take the middle ground, text her. Calling is more formal, but that may also be what she expects. Do what you think SHE would be more comfortable with, not you.

But what do I know, I'm just an old alcoholic geezer who's been happily married for 23 years. I can't even remember my last date.

Lovely photo. Looks like a wonderful day. And I really dig the visual metaphor of a bridge. Very nice.

she texted me multiple times this morning. I assume she'd be comfortable with texting, but then, we talked for an hour on the phone last night. She said she prefers the phone. Maybe I'll call her tonight and just chat, or do I call her tonight and ask for a second date?

I'm an engineer. I overthink everything. Especially women. It's also been years since I did this, so I'm rusty (I wasn't really ever not-rusty, but whatever).

have plans in mind. suggest them. if she's texting you and talking on the phone, it's safe to assume 2nd date.

I don't think there would be anything wrong with you calling her tonight and asking to see her this weekend.

And if you discussed anything like movies or restaurants or activities while you were talking before, follow up on that. so, um, wanna go see that movie we talked about?

Edit: I just realized that my second date with kuf was to go see the movie "Catch me if you can"

good movie. I'm trying to think of anything like that, but not coming up with anything. Today we mostly talked about engineering/jobs, our phones (she has a Droid 2), video games, our past love lifes (she brought it up, I thought it was a bit strange for a first date...), and other various topics, such as the food.

We have talked about movies, but they were movies that we've both seen, and that aren't in theaters. I hate going on a date to a theater anyway, at least an early date. You can't talk. The whole point is getting to know them and figuring out if you like them. Hard to do that sitting in a movie theater, at least without getting kicked out.

Drama exhausts me. One reason I married my wife is the severe lack of drama in our lives.

Do what you want. If she doesn't like it, then she doesn't like it. But you shouldn't change you to get someone. It's the whole "demo" versus "full version" thing.

"What happened to that Flatballer I met?"
"That was the demo."

Since she likes talking on the phone, great. And if you have the urge to ask her out, do it. It's okay to be interested in someone, especially if she's interested back in you. Heck, if she's close, tell her you'd rather talk over coffee or something. In a public place, not in your bedroom.

Would it be weird to suggest a bike ride? And I mean, a mellow, no spandex, no HRM/PT, no clipless shoes bike ride to coffee or ice cream.
