Has coddling tendencies.
3 hour ride yesterday, 2 of which were in a wet, drizzly fog. On the main climb (2000-ish), the roadway was just wet enough so that car and motorcycle tires left behind a long lasting visible track. What entertained me most was the sight of a narrow set of tracks that was obviously a skinny tire bike. For miles I eyeballed that set of tracks, and from the freshness I concluded I couldn't be that far behind, but because of the fog I couldn't see anything beyond maybe 50 feet. Perhaps 3 miles from the top, I noticed a change in the tire tracks. Instead of the more or less straight line, they began to wobble to and fro, an indication of the rider's flagging output. It got to the point where I feared for his safety given how zig zaggy they appeared. Waggling all over the road in those conditions was not the safest thing! A mile from the top I finally caught sight of him. He had on a backpack and was struggling along in a very low gear. And he had no rear blinky! I passed him with a "Nice weather. (pause) Stay safe."
On Saturday, not far from where this ride took place, a local roadie was killed by a 44 y.o woman while driving under the influence. Stay safe everyone. Don't wobble, and use a blinky when riding in the fog.

The races are pretty popular around here.

I'm excited for you.
If you haven't yet, you should look at the "Sufferfest" videos - I'm a huge fan of "enterPAINment" as he puts it. Been using them since they started coming out, good stuff.

Few people understand how it's not really all that crazy. In fact, where you see crazy stuff is a 30 or 40 mph corner. It's easy to out-brave yourself when the consequences don't seem so high.

At the level I was racing at I rarely saw anything that resembled 'crazy' in the openwheel stuff...sedans...yeah lot's of stupid stuff going on there. I think what people confuse with brave is that the guys at the F1 level have such a high degree of talent (yeah even the slow guys) that most can't fathom that what they are doing isn't just being brave and hoping for the best. Yeah they are brave but that bravery is backed with amazing reflexes and quick mind. Rally drivers are F1 drivers squared though...what those guys can do behind the wheel of a car is just brilliant.

Nice! Been running these for a couple of years. Good fun. Just make sure you have a supply of magnets and skewers - they go walkabout. Another local coach had to start selling them, she lost so many. And with 8 units factor in the time for setup and tear down.

Not sure if anyone here is in law, but my sister is a few years out of law school and posted this on her facebook
#!
Judging from I know of her experiences, I found it pretty funny.

Yeah, that's pretty dead on. I got a D in OChem, so that line stung a bit.

Seriously, you might think about it. I used to date a girl who had a background in astrophys. She only had a BS but it was an enough to get her foot in the door of the IP practice in a big firm. She's a partner now and makes a boatload.

My wife had a good "gig" going in Environmental Engineering and pitched it all for law school. She is much happier but makes fewer $'s. Should could have made a lot more getting into patent law or focusing on environmental law issues, but that isn't her thing. Actually she was seeing this as an escape from that kind of crap.
And I truly believe should would have failed organic chem, but she did quite well in clay mineralogy and that involves quite a bit of chemistry.

I did terrible in intro bio. Tons of random info I can't deal with. Put it into context and make me focus on it and I'm a fiend. Specialization is my friend.

I always got my best grades in Organic chem. It's all drawing, playing with models, entertaining arrow pushing puzzles... what's not to like? After I finish mopping this floor I might do a couple mechanisms for fun.

I did learn one thing in OChem: don't use a #2 pencil as a stir-stick for an acetone solution. Unless you want it to be yellow.
