Well this is a first: riding the rollers and the lights went out. Now what? I'm warmed up, not nearly done, and it's dark.

BB30 is press in. There are adapters which can be less than press in, meaning you put a regular BB into a BB30 shell. And there is now that new BB shell that's less than press in, i.e. BB30 bearings that aren't quite as tight as "BB30". Mentioned in one of the NAHBs articles. I'm missing a letter but you know, the handbuilt show.
I decided that as much as I like BB30 (light cranks, stiff, narrow frame, plus my SRM happens to be BB30), they're a royal pain. You can get the whole tool kit minus the press from Cannondale - they come with certain bikes (mine did). You just need a press, which, if you have a friendly hardware store nearby, you can make yourself. I made a "headset press" that way. Although it's not great it works. I even used it for the BB30 bearings but again, not ideal. Need a shorter bolt and some "parallelizers". I don't know how to explain it but I need them. But that's how I put together the Tsunami. TJ is a good guy. Willing to bury himself for a teammate. Enthusiastic beyond belief. Wants to get the job done. My heartrate was higher after the Keith Berger crit when I was "warming down" with him, Chris, Drew, one or two others. TJ had some ideas on what they could have done in the race, I had some ideas on how leadouts should happen, and we all decided we'd race together in 2010. TJ: "So then we did this, that and the other thing. You know, like Fasso." Me: "Well, I'd have done the other thing, that, and this. Think of what it'd look like from the other side...." TJ, after a moment of thought: "Now that's what I'm talkin' about. That's what I'm talkin' about." cdr |

c'mon. Lon Haldeman rode his rollers in a dark basement to get used to riding fast and smooth in the dark. With those early morning NYC races coming up what better way to train?
Or was that kid doing donuts in the street again? Good thinking. I used a flashlight. All those guys riding outdoors with those tree melters should htfu and just duct tape a maglight to their helmets |
lots of good vids of maceo |

BB30/80/90 are all BS...like 11s cassettes they need to change so people will have to buy more stuff...it's marketing crap. Velonews did a test and found the difference between BB30 and standard BB's was negligible...

Speaking of the Fuji, a local racer just bought my entire kit off that bike: Ksyrium Elites, Ultegra cranks, brakes, and ders, all at once. So, I calculated the value of the wear items that I'm keeping (saddle, cassette, chain, tires): the frameset, bb, and headset cost me $610. Hell. Yeah. |
I still think the press fit bearing design was developed to minimize the chance of bb shell failure in carbon frames

Speaking of which, I may have a failure in the works on my Ritchey's BB cluster. I can't tell if it's just raised paint right now, but it seems like it might be torn metal. It's been through a lot in 10 years though. From wookie at 225 lbs to wookie at 1750W.
This one is at the bottom of the down tube. My Bridgestone warranty was a lug failure in the BB cluster (circumferential crack on the drive side around the BB). |
me personally? none. I figure my carbon frames will last many years. I don't really put much lateral flex into them though. non-sprinter at 135 lbs.
as far as working on bikes... I made my own headset press so it stands to reason that I could make my own BB press. |
some of you guys are college professors. question. do you make college students write these days or is everything multiple choice? i consider the folks i've hired in the past 3 years to be completely void of writing ability. no single problem, but everything is horrible. no logic, flow, organization, or ability to succinctly present their point.
i realize that my bf posts might resemble some of these problems, but that's different than a technical report. |

One of my favorite recordings is from that* album - Keep Playing That Rock and Roll.
Anyway, back to horns. A ditty from Tower of Power that played a part in altering my life as a musician. *The studio album. |
candy dulfer is hot though. I'd rather look at her while listening to Maceo.

I'm listening to the Maceo clip right now. It wins. |
