I could stand a little more body image issue. My problem is every time I look in a mirror, all I see is Steve McQueen.

1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step. |

Saw Frankie Andreu, Chris Horner, Mike Friedman, Brad Huff, etc. tonight. Got some pictures of a nice discussion between Frankie and our local USAC main man Dave Fowkes regarding his rider's TT bike saddle position. Hard to believe a week ago he was interviewing Lance in France.
After the TT - which Friedman lost by 1/5 of a second - there was a lot of eye-rolling (actually I got to be the one who told him the bad news. His reaction - 'dude....that's like less than a breath. That sucks.") I made it back to my car and the course was getting opened up. I jumped on it with my car to get out and the end of the course still had barriers up with a less than eager cop sitting there staring at the line of cars stacking up on the other side. The race is in the industrial park I work in so I know the roads. I figured out if I jump the edge of the curb I can get on to the side street and make it out. Just as I am about to pull out I see movement in my peripheral vision. I hit the brakes and Chris Horner comes screaming by my car on the passenger side. - full radio shack kit, tt helmet, booties still on, etc. He surfs the gutter and weaves in and out through us and the barriers.....free and off into the sunset. ......it then dawned on me that I almost right-hooked Chris Horner. Ooooops. Saw him a couple of blocks later as he was going the opposite way. Just out riding his bike on the streets I train on during lunch. I don't care who you are that's cool shiz. |
It's 65 outside.
Knee warmers on (bad knee) and going to take the arm warmers out and wear them till it gets too warm to. Getting ready to eat some oatmeal. Will head out in 15 mins. Psyched. |
Old school TT'n

Mentioned using graduation + work money for a cross bike to my mom. She wasn't as opposed to it as I expected.

And I'm outta here. 50 mile ride here I come!
Given that I haven't ridden this much in, oh, like 3 month, I'm just hoping to not slow everyone down. |
I was hit today - by a truck I think.
Preface: I'm ok, sort of. My arm feels like Albert Pujols smacked it with a 2x4.
I had to go out early this morning to be back home before my wife left. Young'uns at home alone. So I was heading to Crowders Mountain predawn (nothing unusual. It's on my commute and I haven't had any problems before now). I was heading down Lewis Rd when all of a sudden lights flashed on right behind me. Right out of nowhere. (Normally I can see headlights behind me from a distance.) These light looked like they just turned on. Then I saw a dark blue pickup inches from my left. Then "SMACK!!!!!" It's side mirror hit me in the left arm violently. The pain was terrific. I swore out of fear, swerved, but managed to stay upright. The truck continued up the road - up the hill. It must have been doing 50 or better. The speed limit on the road is 35mph. This guy was flying. I continued on my route and managed to do 3x20 hill repeats on Pinnacle. I finished my ride with no real, massive pain. But tomorrow may be a different story. Bruising has started. I get gooseflesh thinking about it now. The sound and the pain. |
damn sub. that could have gone a lot worse. a lot. like stokes county last weekend bad. glad you're relatively ok.

It's astonishing to me that somebody could do that to somebody else, and not have the common decency, or the guts, whatever...to stop and see if the person they just hit is ok. |

Sub, do you think it was intentional?
|
It seemed intentional. The driver turned on their lights just a few yards behind me and a couple of seconds before they hit me. But I don't want to presume. They could have just been a real moron and had no clue. Or a drunk getting home real late. Like 5:45am late.
Hopefully I won't be in any real pain this coming week. I have 5 straight days of criteriums this coming Tuesday. edit: I did have my SupeFlash on my seat tube flashing away and a headlight on as well. |
intentional.

Wasn't there a thread or something about going downhill for long periods of time? I'd like to weigh in and say it sucks. 8 miles downhill is cold and it makes your hands cramp. Bah.
|
I think I know where you were riding this morning.

I think it was 30 something on one of my ascents there in may. I stopped at the gatehouse on the way down and put my hands on the rims for a while to warm them up

eff it.
I am totally uninspired to make music. |
Thankfully isadorah had a hat I was able to use and I have winter gloves up here. Going up wasn't all that cold. I did beat my time from the race back in June, so I guess that's good. I certainly didn't crush it though. Next year I aspire to not be a fat pig.
