He was really drunk, thrashing around in that hotel room, when he hit the mirror and opend a gash in his hand. That wasn't supposed to happen and they wanted to take him to get sewn up but he insisted on doing the scene, which became a bloody mess.
Later, he had a heart attack and they stopped shooting for a while.

KS - Happy & Tumbling Dice are my two favorite Stones' songs, among the many that I like.

Slynkie - Thanks, ordered the large. Looking forward to many outdoor rides this winter.

He'd come to the set drunk on his birthday. Coppolla (sp?) told the film crew to keep filming, just see what happened.

The "boat landing" scene was interrupted when the Philippines needed their choppers back to respond to "rebels" in real life.

Typhoon screwed things up.

The unexpected Marlon weight thing was kind of funny.

Cow slaughter is real. The first one happened off camera, the second the wife filmed, the third was in the movie.

Tons and tons of weird stuff happened. Makes the movie even more surreal.

Yes it is. That was the first movie my wife and I saw together. She hated it. I loved it.

I've never read any Machiavelli. I should get around to that as well.

Yeah, I've only read the Prince (he wrote about a dozen things), but it's pretty fascinating. I guess I wouldn't call it a typically ''enjoyable'' read. But, it's pretty amazing to read it and think about how it's influenced the last 500 years or so of governing/politics. That same summer of Machiavelli/Conrad I also read Utopia by Sir Thomas More. Also an excellent read.

Man, I was such a nerd that summer.

That would be ''The Score.''

Aside from Brando parodying himself it's not that bad actually.

Agreed. It's one of those books that I don't necessarily find enjoyable in and of itself, but it's still worthwhile and interesting when taking into account the broader context. Norton Critical editions tend to be good for those kinds of books.

I LOVED Utopia though. I don't even remember why I got so into it, but I was really obsessed with that book for a while.

I read Utopia and watched A Man For All Seasons when I was in 8th grade, as I had chosen Thomas More as my confirmation saint. Didn't really get either of them, obviously, but had a much greater appreciation when I returned to them in college. Even more so after working as a government lawyer with unreasonable clients.....

Same. I read it as a Junior in High School and I couldn't understand why I was just so fascinated by it. I guess unlike the Prince it's a book you can just take it on face value in a much simpler way. I feel like the Prince has become one of the books you're supposed to read, and therefore it's supposed to mean certain things.

I'll take this chance to apologize for jumping in and randomly taking the Twitter feed in a nerdy direction.

Please do not apologize. The more we can talk about philosophy and political science, the less we have to endure the coding and phone discussions.
