PowerTap download issue?

Just got my PowerTap, SL+. I can not seem to get the software to recognize the head unit. I get "unknown device" from the Power Agent software and the firmware updater shows "unknown device" with verision 0.0, etc.
I have the head unit set as "host" and I have downloaded the drivers and I do not see any USB issues in the device manager.
Anybody have some thoughts?

Did you install the USB device driver?

I just set up on a new machine last night, and installed the driver first, then PowerAgent, then WKO+ (at which point I had to hunt for the right port setting).

Yep. I guess I can wipe out the software and re-install. It just does not recognize the head unit I guess.
I will say the software seems less than robust or intuitive to use. I would think a simple plug and play system would work better than this has.

Make sure the PT computer is pushed all the way into the cradle. The first time I tried to download I had the same problem and I found that even though it looked like it was all the way in, you have to push really really hard to get it to go that last 1 mm or so and snap into place to make the connection the first time you do so.

You might also try different USB ports. My order of operations is plug in cradle, wait for "new hardware found"/"ready to use" messages, turn on head unit, then snap in head unit (see "HOST" displayed).

I will try that tonight and see if it helps. Also, is there a good book on training with power. I have looked at the web based stuff and would like something "hands on".

+1

I did the exact same thing, it drove me crazy when I first got my PT. Practically tore apart my computer trying to fix drivers, etc. Even though the head unit says "HOST" it still may not be seated in the cradle all the way. Give it an extra hard push and it will snap into another place, the display won't change but now it's connected...
