I guess I'm wrong again.

With 800 metres to go, former track sprinter Theo Bos (Rabobank Continental) put his right hand on Impey's shoulder and caused the crash. The panel of UCI commissaires watched the TV replay several times but chose not to take action against Bos for his involvement in the accident as it was unclear whether or not he did it aggressively.

ouch.

Why would he throw the guy in the yellow jersey in front of his own bike so they both crashed? Doesnt seem to make sense to me.

Was he trying to shove him so he wouldn't cross his front wheel?

Every time I watch Euro Sport Im amazed at the stupid things the announcers say. The clown talking during the Amstel Gold race today should shut his pie hole too.

holy ****.
maybe Bos was trying to stiff-arm Impey to prevent Impey from riding Bos into the barricades, but that definitely feels like a generous interpretation of the situation. It really looks like he grabbed his arm or jersey and swung him around.

Wow. I don't know. With the way his upper body moved when he went down, it sure looked like someone had a fistful of jersey... Looked like it might have started innocently enough though, hand on the hip, to let him know he was there, then hand on the shoulder as he moved up. What do I know, but it kind of looks to me like Bos knew he was going down and decided to take the yellow jersey with him or maybe freaked out as he started to loose it and grabbed out of panic. Who knows. I hope he didn't do it on purpose.

The thing is I don't think Bos went down. You can't tell for sure but a Rabobank rider darts to the right very quickly after the crash. I think that was Bos. How you yank a guy across your front wheel and NOT crash has to be some kinda record.

If anyone knows how to take a guy out without taking his hands off the bars I would have thought it'd be him.

+1, I don't see any other possible interpretation of that action. I totally agree with the commentator, that deserves a ban. Unless Bos has the most incredible explanation ever. Which I doubt.

I don't know, I went back to the video but I've got to disagree. I think that was somebody else slipping through on the right of the crash. I think it would just be impossible for Bos not to have gone down. Where is there any reporting on this fiasco?

Surely he wouldn't throw him in front of himself, and even if so this is the most unprofessional commentator I've ever heard.

from cyclingnews...

Daryl Impey won the 45th Presidential Tour of Turkey but he didn't enjoy the post-race celebrations due to injuries suffered in a crash with 800 metres to go of the final stage. Impey remained on the ground for 20 minutes before getting back on his bike to cross the finish line. He was taken to the hospital in Alanya where the doctors reported a fracture of the third disc of his lumbar vertebra, a micro-fracture of his neck, facial trauma, a few broken teeth and a deep cut in his lips.

i don't see why he would pull him into his own front wheel, though. i tried to watch it in slow mo. it looks like impey's bike goes right immediately before he starts to go left. perhaps impey thought that the arm on his shoulder was a body, and when he got pushed inward from the right side, he leaned into what he thought was another rider. i don't know. wish there was a better video of it.

edit: found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBiBxulAWGc

looks like he really did grab him and pull him over. wtf?

and, yes, it looks like bos went down too.

Bos finished 3:19 down but another teammate finished at 4:54. That guy could have been dropped and caught up to the crash or it could be the guy in the crash. They show a Rabobank guy walking his bike and I can't tell who it is.

My best guess is a lot happened right before the grab; maybe the guy cut over on Bos or whatever. A GC guy shouldn't be sprinting for the win on the last day anyway and this is why.

Theo Bos needs to do some work before he will be any account in a road race. People on this forum were hyping him up before he made the switch from the track, but I don't see him getting any significant results anytime soon. There's only one Cavendish.

okay, i blew it up big and watched again. impey definately makes contact with the rider on the right in red (barloworld teammate?) while bos has his hand on his shoulder.

still, you can see bos's body go up from trying to push impey in front of him after impey gets off balance. i am not sure if he was trying to avoid the rails or what. weird.

I don't think anyone expected him to beat Cavendish 6 months after contesting the Olympic match sprint. When he reaches proper road race weight I think he will be a top 5 sprinter. It took Nothstein years to win a crit. Theo already has a few continental road wins.

You can see better here. The is moving faster and Impey has him right on the barrier which effectively takes him out of the sprint. My take is Theo said "if I'm going down you're coming with me".

The commentator was talking about how there were time bonuses on the line in this sprint, and I think that the sprint would have affected the GC. I don't know the specifics but it sounded that way based on the commentary.

Well if he did throw him into the barriers, Bos must be one strong armed guy. The yellow jersey just shoots ahead and to the left. Weird indeed.

The commentator is only human. Phil and Paul would have made the same comments.

In any case, Bos needs to be either banned for life or restricted to events where he can't hurt anyone else. Like time trials or track pursuit.

It doesn't toally look like Bos' fault. the yellow jersey bounces off the rider to his right, then comes out of his saddle and forward (like a sprint position) while Bos had his hand on him to tell him that Bos is on his left.
It looks like Bos' hand goes with the rider's shoulder when he jumps out of the saddle. I'm not sure.

I honestly don't think that even Juan Curuchet could have thrown the yellow jersey forward that fast in a regular Madison-style throw, let alone a shoulder push.
