Should I race today or Stay Home?

I caught a bit of that cold that's been terrorizing Southern California. I barley got it and I usually get over cold quick but the congestion and sore throat won't go away. Anyway I feel pretty other than a lot of congestion I've been on a rest week all week too so I haven't been on the bike since last Sunday. I have a race in about 5 hours I'm pre registered for ($25) would you guys do the race which is a 40 mile drive or would you not risk getting sicker and rest?

Sounds like you're on the mend so there's not as much risk of getting "sicker". I would race.

Usually it's my policy to not hold back because I'm sick but I've read a lot and heard that it's typically best to just sit it out if you're feeling it below the neck.

Well, if you stay home it could be trouble.
But if you race it could be double.

It's not so miuch the congestion that worries me what worries me is the ache in my throat, don't know if it's a strep or something just lingering. I'm not one to get sick often but I haven't gotten sick yes this season so I thoght I'd ask you guys for your advice.

Rest. In my experience colds have a way of not really going away and coming back strong, and fast, if I don't get over them completely. Boost your immune system, eat good foods, get a few full night of sleep, stay hydrated, and in a few days it should be gone for good. But you don't want to race and have it keep you down for longer, or blossom into something worse.

and THEN you can rock the casbah.

I'm so used to getting over colds really fast because for the last two years before I started riding I was very sedentary and very healthy so my immune system was so strong. Now I'm noticing with trying to train 200 miles a week in 3 week blocks things have a way of holding onto me longer. I think I'm going to rest and play some drums rather than force myself to race.

This was supposed to be my first 4's race too

I ditched my race this morning.

I went to bed last night coughing, I woke up tired and coughing up phlem. I could have raced, but not at the expense of next week. It's a long season, not a big deal in the grand scheme.

Glad I didn't race, but I found out our 4 teams star had a 1/2 a lap lead most of the crit and I heard he had such a lead in the last lap he might have been able to see the tail of the pack going around turn 1 when he came around turn 4 lol.

I went and got some Claratin D and talked to a pharmacist and found out I shouldn't have been takin claratin D for as long as I was that the sudafed in it can cause problem. I noticed I caught this cold right when I stopped taking Clartin D last week... I'm kinda curious if taking Claratin D for a month and a half straight maybe made caused my body no to be able to handle the natural congestion I'd build up.

he recommended I just stick to regular claratin. I'm definitely glad I didn't race though I feel like my body is clearing out all that congestion. Hopefully I'll be all good for Dana Point Grand Prix next weekend.

I assume you are talking about Chuck Pontius?

He had a 1:09 lead - solo. The last lap was done by the pack in about 1:29.
I believe he also won the masters 40+ 3/4 in the same fashion, solo break.

That guy seriously needs to upgrade.

Yeah he's in his early 20s. He will give our star 3s a run for their money at VSR for sure. Chester and Ron probably won't have upgraded yet. Maybe Devan Dunn will be out of our hair by then.
