dick pound on armstrong..........

"I think it is pretty clear. If you are selected for testing, you have to be chaperoned from the time you are notified until the time you provide the sample," he told Cyclingnews in recent days. "Lance, who calls himself the world's most tested athlete, certainly knows that. Yet on some kind of pretext that they didn't recognise the tester - or whatever it was - his manager stays down with him while Lance disappears for half an hour. That is totally contrary to the rules."

Armstrong hoisted on his own petard? Regardless of any of the merits, you've got to admire Pounds retorical skills.

The fact of the matter is, this is simply not true. The tester has to have specific instructions to have them remain in their site, this particular tester didn't have those instructions.

This is the part I like... "or whatever it was..." So this was Dick Pound's amazing counter attack, he should be ashamed. First off, even if Armstrong was out of the testers view for up to 30 minutes, that does not constitute the test. Also, this totally preposterous notion that someone could "drink tons and tons of water.." is unbelievable. Pound should know that the body only creates approximately 30mls of urine every hour, so no amount of water in a half hour period would make any difference. Also, does anyone know if the test has to be given in the presence of the tester? I would assume so otherwise the whole system is completely pointless, thus his argument of using someone else's urine is again shot out of the water. I have taken hundreds and hundreds of urine samples in my years as a corrections officer, I'm pretty familiar with how a test is done, and it's not like there are too many different ways to do it....Pound is simply poking around to see what stink he can rile up IMHO. And just for the record, this is not a "pro Lance" rant, simply an opinion on the laughable state the AFLD and WADDA are in when it comes to the execution and enforcement of their own rules.

"You can catherise [using clean urine - ed.], you can drink tons and tons of water, you can do all sorts of things to spoil or affect the test. So that is exactly why you have this rule," he said.
and how does drinking tons and tons of water invalidate the hair and blood test, Dickey boy?

And here's what Dick Pound was doing about this time last year, getting sued for defamatory comments:
AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) — Cycling's governing body is suing former World Anti-Doping Agency president Dick Pound.
The International Cycling Union and its former president Hein Verbruggen have lodged a complaint in a Swiss court over what they call Pound's "continual injurious and biased comments."

This is from USA Today, 3/21/2008.

And what of the rules regarding testers being accompanied by a second individual to ensure that there is a witness to all proceedings and that it doesn't turn into a he said/she said? I guess Lance needs to follow the rules, but the testers need not.

Actually, yes, I believe Pound thinks all athletes who exhibit anything remotely like success are guilty. The guy is a ******, his vendetta is because he sucked at swimming at the olympic level.

I admire any man who can go thru life named Dick Pound.

(otherwise, In the grand scheme of things he does more harm than good for the anti-doping cause)

Pound is a blowhard fat ass Montreal lawyer who likes nothing better than to be in the press. He; however, does not like his wife being in the press for being arrested in Atlanta for jaywalking during the Olympics. The rich socialite from the big city claimed she didn't know you shouldn't jaywalk.

On the drug front, he helped (led?) to set up a very unfair doping control system. I'm not saying I'm for the dopers, but give them a fair trial.

all I gotta say is that if Armstrong can somehow ride in from hours on the bike and somehow go from doped to clean in 20 minutes, and take a shower, he's gone up a couple of notches in my estimation.

dick pound on armstrong

When I first saw this thread, I thought for sure it would contain the words Lancefan, hand, lotion, and life-sized poster.

As in:

With all this hand wringing about Pound, who's a life-sized poster child for hypocrites, isn't the average Lancefan is going to need a lot hand lotion?
