Athens Twilight Criterium
Who's going to be there? I was going to race, but my knee has been giving me hell for the last couple of days. Looks like working in a restaurant kitchen and riding bikes don't agree with each other. Anywho, the weather is supposed to be great, upper 70's and sunny. Should be fun!

I have tickets to a Dave Matthews Concert and a Girlfriend that are keeping me from going. I have a buddy racing in the 2s though.

I'm in for the morning 4/5 race. Will be enjoying the pro races and elite races from the sidelines with my brew.

Sorry, I think Phil's great, but it's not his course. If the whole team is going then maybe.
My prediction: Bahati defends. Gutt gets 3rd. The Hipp Ride's very own Angel of Pain and Misery will get a top-15.

I wish I was going. The possibility of 3 races in the 3 days within easy driving distance is great. Rome Friday night, Athens Saturday and Roswell Sunday, WOW! Unfortunately my wife is doing her first marathon in Nashville Saturday and her b'day is Friday so I will be in the support role this weekend...

I actually don't like this race. Nothing like 25 cat 3s or 20 cat 4/5s trying to qualify for the finals. I really don't like sprinting for 25th place.
And then the twilight course is a crash fest. p12s not in the invitational race drive the pace hard and the 4/5s overcook the first two turns and it just goes downhill from there.
But the invitational race and the party are cool.

No and yes. He started something like 150th last year and finished top-20, I'd say his form is pretty damn good right now, but to be honest I'm not even sure he's doing it.

Amateurs -- 30+ -- Ryan, Cat3 -- Me (I may also do the 40+ as a warm-up, that option is still on the table)
Pros -- Gutt, Phil, Gary
I'm looking forward to the party.

Bobby S won't be there? Perhaps he is studying for aero finals. (I really don't know how he can train at that level and be an excellent engineering student.)

Its on my agenda for next year. Hard to do it from Miami, when there's racing locally and I've been all over Fla this year...the wife would like some time at home. Plus after I uprgrade I'm planning a few other travels.... Chicago Criterium (July), Harlem (June) and Capital City Crit DC (Aug). Gotta be strategic in these economic times!

Well, the cat3 race wasn't particularly hard, but it was hot as hell and I'm not acclimated yet. Lining up 12 minutes early to still be behind 50+ other riders sort of sucked too. 99 guys in our field, only a few crashes, not too bad.
As for me, heat=fail.
To those that made it, have fun tonight boys. I'll be drinking beers.

I ended up toward the back in the race today. There were two crashes. And yes it was very hot. That was the most people I think I have ever seen in a Cat3 crit. And those 4 cars that were left out on the race course made it even better, although they didn't cause any issues.
