I like the Competitive Cyclist deal. $659 for the whole wheel; $549 for the power tap hub alone.

That competitive cyclist deal is a pretty good one if you want the wired unit (no HR). If you want something else......uh....I might have some ideas....

I'm not sure I understand the CC description. Does that mean it will record HR if you have the appropriate chest strap, or is there something else you need?

It DOES do heart rate. It just doesn't come with a chest strap. I did the CC deal and bought a chest strap separate.

Yes it will record HR.
Just buy the saris chest strap and you are good to go.

I wonder if my coded Suunto strap will work. I suppose I could send them an email and ask.

Don't know for sure. I'd contact them to check. I have heard that the Sigma straps will work with them.

for brand new besides the competitive cyclist deal wheelbuilder.com is by far the cheapest and gives you the most options for a custom build. Does anyone have any coupons for them too? I am buying a powertap from them soon and if i could save more money that would be great.

Glad this thread is here...gotta tell ya, the search feature is not necessarily efficient for finding threads of this type...

Some questions I've had about PT:
Is their much significance difference, with respect to riding, between the 12mm and the 15mm hub...should I really care that much? I've seen posts or comments in various places that the stiffness varies by hub size...but, for a Cat 4 rider in the 165-170 pound range -- is it really going to matter? (And let's even assume that I make it to Cat 3 sometime and that I'm gonna drop another 5 pounds if any of that matters.)

Anything to be aware of with respect to riding in temperatures below freezing or in the rain? Do some of the models perform better in these conditions? I've read in some places that the computer displays sometimes have issues in lower/colder temps (but, data keeps getting recorded).

Thanks!!

I am also interested in knowing if it is worth getting the SL+ over the Pro+ (for the 15mm vs 12mm axle)

IMO, they all work identically. The premium price gets you ANT+ and lighter weight.

It's not. A local coach (former TdF finisher) told me that he has yet to see a month's worth of Ergomo data that's consistent enough to use. He said PT and SRM all the way (he sells SRMs, and has a couple of their ergometers). This was before the Quarq...

Going that route, I think you all owe Pismet a shot at your business. If I didn't build my own, he'd be my first check.

Another great builder with really good prices is Edina Bike. Phone them though, their online deals are just "decent" these days (they used to have the best wired SL deal around, but not since the 2009 models landed). Anyway, get a quote for a custom build from them through phone and email. You'll be surprised. I've seen their builds, and they're fine.
