Announcer just noted that B-Hagen bumped him. Not that he would have won, but he wasn't in contention today.

Hocam 05-22-09 09:08 AM

Waiting to hear what gems come out of Cav's mouth this time...

Flak 05-22-09 09:09 AM

Farrar just sucks at positioning himself. Always manages to either get boxed out, or hesitates for just a split second. I think he's worried too much about what everyone else is doing, and not worried about himself enough.

Great sprint head to head with Petacchi and Cav. Cav is just plain older faster these days it seems.

I think he managed all of the above today, lol!

I didn't see the bump, Farrar had plenty of space in front of him and to the right as B-Hagen and Cav passed him. Saxo Bank had two guys go past soon after on the left while Robbie Hunter and Petacchi went on the right.

Petacchi going early led to his victory over Cav; Farrar should give that a try. Once Cav gets even with you, it's over.

Can't imagine Cavandish's even starting tomorrow. Great way to leave.

FixdGearHead 05-22-09 09:11 AM

Farrar isn't aggressive enough. Cav, while arrogant, is correct when he says that Farrar isn't as good as Cav or Petacchi.

Agreed. They touched shoulders...hardly a substantial "bump". Kid just needs to grow a bit and gain some experience. He's proven that he can stay up there and contest the sprint.

MitchellH 05-22-09 09:20 AM

At one point, when the Milram guy was out in front, he was doing 46 KPH (28.58 MPH) and the peloton was closing at 57 KPH (35.41 MPH). They caught him, of course.

That they can cruise along on level ground at that speed will never cease to impress me.

SaddleBags 05-22-09 09:36 AM

There was the bumping of shoulders about 300m left between Tyler and the Highroad rider (Cav's leadout) to stay on the Garmin leadout. The boxout came when the Saxobank rider peeled off and Tyler lost a pedal stroke by getting squeezed between the the Saxobank rider and another rider on his left (maybe Davis).
The replays of the overhead shot was great watching both Tyler and the Highroad rider trying to stay on the Garmin leadout's wheel.

It's more like 90% physical and the other half mental...but I get your point.

Grumpy McTrumpy 05-22-09 09:39 AM

Cav knows that...that's why he talks. farrar needs to toughen up....maybe watch some old abu clips and learn to make others fear him :D.

It ain't mental, it ain't position, it's pure unadulterated speed. Alejet had the position and couldn't close the deal. I'm not a fan of Cav the person, but Cav the sprinter has no peers at this point.

This gem:
“I’ve got the best lead-out man in the world in Mark Renshaw. In the last 20km, I could sit on his back wheel,” Cavendish said. “The other teams are desperate now. We kept cool, sat back and used the strength we had to come past the other teams. All I have to do is finish it.”

The nerve of this guy/kid:rolleyes:

While he might not be humble to the other sprinters, he's very respectful of the people who put him on the podium. I wonder how he is with them in person.

Now that didn't seem at all dickish, not like the other comments directed at the ability (or lack there of) of his rivals.

That's the reason why my jury's still out on Cav. He's incredibly frank about the competition, but goes out of his way to thank his entire team each time they do something for him.
